Mr Foghorn and Mr Rhody.

I am not really experienced. I have a flock of forty birds that includes two roosters and some adult birds I was given when my mom decided to get out of chickens. Among the fourth I also have the majority of young chickens. This includes seven leghorns that are just beginning to lay. I have a separate coop and run that currently houses 10 one-month-old pullets and a cockerel with no spurs yet pictured in the thread. I also have a brooder with 7 Sumatra straight run that are about two weeks old.

My experience is summed in that my parents have frequently had chickens since I was small. My mom has a picture of me as a toddler carrying an indignant looking leghorn. However, I am 40 and the above mentioned birds are just acquired this summer as a first attempt at keeping birds as an adult.

My goal isn’t purebreads. I am interested mainly in eggs while sustaining a colorful gene pool through several generations hatched on my own property.
