So I have this hen who hatched one lone egg... she raised it but she was very young herself. She had only just started laying when she went broody. She was a good mom except when it came to integrating her chick into the flock. What she did was one day just say "Later you are on your own" or maybe she didn't even say that much. When night fell she just went in with the hens leaving her lone chick beeping and beeping... she didn't even respond to call the poor chick in to the coop.
I had had her separate to hatch and raise the chicks. One day I noticed a hen paying way too much attention to my roosters comb and sure enough I watched and she was pecking at it. I had to separate him so he went in with Mom and the chick. They were quite the cozy family and all was right as rain until mom up and left them for the hen house. Now there is just the two of them and they are as cute as can be. I just hope no problems develope....
