Mr. Wu is a Button Quail rooster I have for a pet/watchdog. I have had button quail as pets before, but never a rooster as a pet. Without going into all the weird things about him, there is one thing in his behavior that concerns me. This little guy is Preening (scratching) almost constantly when he is about. I have never seen any quail or birder of any kind that does that as much as this one. Is it possible that this little guy has some kind of skin problem?

This should be fun, doing an inspection. Gonna be 2 oz. of mean going after me over that. I hope it is worthwhile. BTW, here are some photos that show him, not scratching though. Just one, as this was very hard for me to do.

Speaking of Mr. Wu, since he is a pet I have not been very careful what I feed him. The fact is, that a lot of what he eats is anything that I give him which is almost anything. He is an aggressive eater. I know that they have the same general diet as chickens and I do see him eating some of the quail food that I get for him. But he likes real food of any kind and I just can't turn the little fart down. I know that he should not be eating a hell of a lot of carbs, so I only occasionally let him have rice. But does anyone know of anything these little guys should not eat?

I am certainly glad to know that. I could love him a lot more if he would provide me with an allowance. Let me know if he prefers check, money order, or cash. I can accept any of those.
Do you have any dietary advice for Mr. Wu?

I was being a smart ass. I should not do that. Please forgive me. I will check your out. I am more concerned about how much of the things that I eat and he eats that he shouldn't. Nobody wants a fat suety button quail.
Wu is the first rooster I have had for a pet and man he sure is different. About every other day he starts to whistle then stalk around with his wings low, followed by a full attack on my hands, feet, or any protrusion he can grab.
I know what that is all about, but it is the funniest thing I have ever seen and man he really, really means it.
I will be checking out the information you provided.
