Mrs. Viss' Classroom Hatch-a-Long!

Thank you guys. Egg R is pipped correctly, and I can see its beak coming out and it is alive, but has been pipped with little progress for over 24 hours. Should I give it a little more time, and then intervene? I’m afraid to open the incubator because all the other eggs have pipped as well. Humidity is 77 right now, as another one just hatched
If you know that one's been over 24 hours, I'd sterilize my hands, get someone to help you and sterilize their hands too.

You're going to open the side of the incubator where that Egg R is. Very quickly this will be done. You open it and have the other person quickly grab that egg and shut the door fast.

Once out, if you've read that article, good. If not, get a sterilized tweezer or use your sterilized fingernails and peck that shell around where its head is. You can go a little bit further to take about 1/3 of the shell away. If you see blood, STOP. Then do the same thing to quickly put him back.

Thank you. I’ve read the article and will refresh my memory before I do it. I will wait until the kids leave for the day. When you say sterilize my hands, do you mean wash them? All I have access to is soap, water, and hand sanitizer. I know for certain this egg has been pipped for 24 hours and the chick is currently alive and moving its beak

Hatched so far:
C - Peaches
J - Justin
M - Liberty
N - Nugget
P - Peanut

All others have pipped!
This is such good news! What a great hatch you are having! The kids must be so elated! ❤️

Yes, soap and water is fine, or so is the hand sanitizer.

If I remember right, L or M on down was from your own flock. What breeds do you suspect?
Well, my Roo is 50% Silver laced Wyandotte, 50% buff Orpington, so all of them would be 25% of those in theory! The other options based on egg color are
Easter egger (Peanut is this)

Speckled Sussex

Turken/Naked Neck ( does anyone know if this is a dominant trait?)

My roosters sister (same breed breakdown, but I don’t think she was laying at the time because her comb was SUPER pale during her off season)

Red partridge Rock (my hen is gorgeous, deep red mahogany with penciled feathers, I hope one of them is hers but I’m not sure how I would tell!)

So far all the eggs of mine that have hatched are a variety of yellow with rose combs :)
