Mrs. Viss' Classroom Hatch-a-Long!

Congratulations on the newly hatch fuzzy wuzzies! :jumpy :jumpy

I agree with the others, it's time to intervene. Moisten the edges of the shell with warm water and pick away at the shell. Go very slowly, if you see blood, stop and try more later. The chick with be exhausted, a tiny tiny bit of water drizzled in the corner of the mouth for hydration can help afterwards. Good luck and keep us posted! 🥰

Also, glad I didn’t intervene yet on Pipsqueak! She is starting to zip. I will see how far she gets on her own!!

Just a visual update on Pipsqueak

The humidity spiked way up because we had about 4 simultaneous hatches, so maybe that increased moisture gave her the help she needed to push through that difficult section. The yellow membrane makes me nervous as usually that means they are drying out, but as long as she is trying I will see how much more she is able to progress. She’s just about there, so if I need to help just a little more so she can kick herself out I have no issues doing that. She’s a tough chick!!

@Gazergirlstar Here she comes!! Her siblings helped her out by pecking at her toes, lol. I think they actually helped her get through some of that membrane and shell, so I didn’t have to!! Welcome to the world little girl!!!

She does look like she has some membrane and goo stuck to her back. Is that something I should do about that, or just let it be for now? I have a feeling her many siblings might pick that away for her.

Sorry for all the questions guys. The humidity is pretty high - 87, would it be unwise to remove the fluffy chicks and some of the spent shells? I don’t think it will drop super low if I am quick. But I won’t if that’s a bad idea.

It should come down as those shells dry out. If it's not, then you could do the trick of a quick open/close. That'd help.

If there's a couple fluffy chicks or empty shells by where you open it, just snag those too. :)
