Ms Purdy Needs Your Help Please

That poor dear

Now indoors, is she eating, drinking? What is the condition of her poop? (now that she's inside you'll be able to see). I hope it's just a first egg gear up but I am concerned about the breathing issue you mentioned. Also concerned about her posibly being eggbound with first egg, particularly if it's quite large. Avian vet can deal with that, if you're able. Unfortunately I lost a sweet and joyful bird, Annie, when she was trying to lay an egg. She had always laid perfect eggs but one day merely a few hours after her normal egg laying time (there was not yet an egg) I got hiome from work and saw her twitching back there (which doesn't necessarily mean eggbound) and before I knew it, she had a heart attack. It was very sad. She wasn't even 2 years old yet. Had I known it was stuck, I would've had her in a warm bath, given her a Tums....

Hopefully your girl does not have this problem.

Very smart to have her inside and warm so that she doesn't have to expend any energy dealing with the elements. Sending good thoughts for Ms Purdy and please keep us posted.

My wife is in the room with her, watching her, giving me feedback. She says her breathing does not appear to be labored. She is resting quietly with her eyes open. No twitching, no anything, just rest.

I'm going in now to check on her.

Perhaps the twitching this morning was only shivering from the cold? If she is sick she may have been a lot more sensitive to cold last night. You may just have to let her sleep some and then just keep us posted.

Seems she has warmed up quite lovely and appears more alert. She's been in an open cardboard box with soft towel for about an hour now, hasn't pooped once, is that a sign of something? Just asking cause, well, you know how much these birds can poop!

She just sits or stands mainly, mainly sits, blinking her eyes now and again. She clucked when I just tried to pet her. I took that as a good sign as you know EEs are skittish, so it seems is the general consensus.

The twitching seemed to be just on her tail feathers and I was thinking it was related to her rear end somehow.

This morning it was in the mid twenties here, warm compared to other places. Perhaps the cold did have an influence considering what she's going through?

I don't know - just trying to think of all the possibilities. Could be she is trying to pass an egg and stopped twitching because she is too tired to contract the muscles anymore.

Or she is just resting between tries...have you offered her warm water to drink? I would let her drink as much as she wants (that may get you a poop sample too). What about food? Is she hungry?

I appreciate your thoughts on the matter, thank you. She is nice and warm so maybe, just maybe (

Have offered food and drink but not sure if she's had either as wife keeps falling asleep at the watch!

Going to check on her now (the chicken)
