Ms Purdy Needs Your Help Please

bump....
.... and a smidgen of intuition.. bring her in. I don't have anything even like the experience that other
folks have but just from reading what you've written and how others have responded- from a female intuition
point of view I'd say yes, bring her in.
Good luck and keep us posted!

to you for being so vigilant and caring!

Last night right before closing up the coop for the night I checked on things and she was nestled in one of the nest boxes.

I decided to let her sleep there in the coop with the rest of them. My thinking was it might be less stressful, since they are flock animals.

It wasn't as windy nor cold last night as the night before so it seems and everyone piled out merrily. She was the last to come out. Her condition hasn't changed much.

Okay, for today's question, anyone ever hear of Sulmet? It has been suggested by an old timer that perhaps she should be quarentined from the others & given Sulmet in her drinking water.

Thanks
again!

You can get Sulmet at farm and fleet...saw it last night! I have used it when my chickens had cocci. It is very easy to use in their water and they dont seem to notice it at all. But you should be sure that that is what your chicken has (or one of the other things it works on) so you dont medicate unnecessarily. Terri O

Sorry she still isn't out of the woods.

I'm not seeing if you said you have felt any hardness that might be an egg. Check again this AM? anything?

Did you do a really close look under very bright light for bugs? - lice are only at the base of feathers and hard to see.

At one point you say maybe a small lump in her crop, then you thought not. How is it this morning? One little piece of styrofoam could cause problems.

Is her comb color a good red or pinkish?

(Just doing what I do with a sick bird I can't diagnose - throw out any assumptions made the previous day and start over from the beginning to see if I might have missed something or if today another symptom seems new or different. Don't mean to offend you and imply you didn't check this stuff before.)

Just finished examining her, her comb is bright red (I mentioned yesterday her comb had always appeared frost bit. We rubbed olive oil on it yesterday, looks fine & bright red since.)

I thoroughly examined her crop for any lump whatsoever & nothing there at all.

Yesterday, I did noticed that one of the birds is having a runny, white stool, thought it might be her, wasn't sure.

Yesterday evening and today there is some white staining on her tail feathers around the cloaca but her poo piles in the nest box she slept in appeared normal.

She is aware of her surroundings & even tries to get away from you when you walk towards her, albeit with a little effort she is easily caught.

So the saga continues.

Now what? See if it pans out or perhaps do something but what, is the million dollar question.

Thanks chicken people.

Sounding more and more like an egg thing to me. If you are not feeling an egg shape waiting to come out yet I'm not sure what else to do for her except keep an eye on her and keep us posted.

If you are feeling an egg shape you might want to try the warm bath and prep H thing. I've never done that so someone else will need to chime in or you'll have to do a search for egg bound hen.

I will certainly check out your blog & good luck with Ruby Girl.

Ms Purdy seemed to have a slightly better day today, perhaps just a hint.

This evening they all went into the coop & she tried to flap & jump up twice but just missed her mark.

I picked her up and put her on the roost with the others. I'm still hoping its an egg thing, but I honestly am thinking it could be something else, but I'm new to this & just have no choice but to wait and see.

I would love for it to be as simple as an egg complication.

On a funny note, Goldy is absolutely in love with me, thinks I'm her rooster!

Comes right up to me now, every time I walk out there, squats if I breathe, lol!
