Mt. Healthy Hatchery

I've purchased hundreds from them. Great people and good chicks. I find their strain of Black Jersey Giants(friendlier and heavier) better than Meyer hatchery ; which is also great people to deal with.

My feed store supplier gets their chicks from Mt. Healthy. I had gotten Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, Silver Laced Wyandottes, and Golden Laced Wyandottes from them. All were supposed to be pullets. All but 2 SLW were pullets. (One of the SLW roosters was just beautiful, but I had to get rid of the roos.)

All chicks were healthy, no problems at all rearing them, and the hens are beautiful and good layers. One of the SLW hens was so pretty I called her "Beauty" even though I don't normally name my chickens. (Sadly, the SLW hens fell prey to something...guess they were too eye-catching.) I don't have photos - except my avatar pictures the Buff Orp chicks when I first got them. If I can take photos later, I will try to load them. Had been thinking of posting some of the GLWs on the Wyandotte online poultry show anyway!

I would get my chicks from the same feed store again this year, but I want to try new breeds that they are not carrying.

My original girls came directly from Mt. Healthy, and they are wonderful EEs. THey lay really well, and I haven't had ANY health issues with them. Here are a few:

We got RIR, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Barred Rocks and Americanas from Mt healthy.

All were nice robust healthy chicks, the ones I sold on CL have done well, and the ones I have here are very healthy, they free ranged all winter (their choice, not mine!) All are still with me and starting to lay again, it was hit or miss all winter, I figured they needed the energy to stay warm.

I decided to keep my hatchery "Mutts" over the purebred stuff I got, they were incredibly unthrifty, I sold the remaining 7 out of 25 to someone who was willing to work with the breed and cull hard. I suppose I could have saved the 7 I had left, since if they made it thru a NY winter, they must have been hardy, but I didn't have enough of any one color left to make it worthwhile!

Mt. Healthy's EEs are big, heavy birds for the most part. I have ordered EEs from 3 different hatcheries and the Mt. Healthy birds were much larger. They have all laid blue/green eggs and are great layers. Here is some of mine I ordered from them last year. Pics were taken when they were about 5 months old.
