Muffs and Beards

Are muffs and beards a dominant trait? If a hen has a muff when bred to a non muff rooster will the offspring have a muff? Or is it 50% chance thing?

It is dominant but it also depends on if she has 2 genes for it or only 1... if she carries 2 genes, then she will pass on the traits to all her offspring, if only 1 then it averages 50/50 split, with and without...

Oh ok that makes sense then. So if an offspring has no muff (EE mother) could she still throw chicks with muffs?

Which are you referring to being the one to throw muffs, the clean faced offspring or the EE mother?

If you just had one offspring from her hatch, and it's clean faced and you are wondering about other offspring, then yes, she should still throw some with muffs... the offspring, if it is clean faced will not throw offspring with any muffs though...

Yes that makes sense thank you. I had EE hens with muffs that I bred to a BR rooster and the chicks must have split like you said some had muffs and some didn't. I was asking if the clean faced daughters could throw muffs without having them themselves. But you answered that question, which you said they won't, thanks!
