mulch in chicken house?

i was wondering if anyone knows if it is safe to use mulch in the henhouse on the floor? I get mulch free, but wanted to make sure it was safe before switching from wood shavings.

hmmm...is it colored mulch or natural...seems like the colored mulch will have some kind of dye on it...might not be good for your chickies...hope someone knows for you

What sort of mulch? Bark mulch isn't very absorbent.

What about putting in it a run out back? I was thinking about doing this so that its not muddy...

Well it's better than nothing.

When you say mulch, I think of wood chippings like I get from my shredder. If that's what you mean, sure why not? Give it a shot and let us know what happens. Some things will be more absorbent, or lighter or any of several other things that could be called "optimal."

But, hey, if you get it for free then its worth trying it out!

Just be sure it is non-toxic and has no dies or chemicals.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I think i'll try it in the run first (rainy season in fl = yuck!) and if that works out alright i'll try it in the henhouse!
