Mulch!

I don't think they have any tree crews around here. If they do, they'l just drop the tree or limbs and let them rot. These guys don't do anything extra. You'd be luck to see a road crew to stop traffic when they're cutting a big one down.

I'm still wondering if cedar and eucalyptus are bad for the my adults.

Thanks everyone!

I use cypus mulch. I love it. It is easy to rake out when it is time for fresh mulch. It allows the chickens to dig and dust bathe, and the poop easily washes into the earth. I recycle it in the woods behind us (my son makes trails with it).

Sunny Side Up we too have just had mulch dumped from eletric company clearing the power lines. We have 5 huge loads here and one has been used for around the house. I remember when I lived in FL that we could do it and hubby asked when he saw them here. They usually take it someplace further Noirth that sells it for $7 a truck load. Pickup truck load that is. Our crews were very happy to have the locals want it this year.

Well, I'm glad everyone is so LUCKY and gets FREE mulch! Just jealous...

As mentioned above, there is no real likelihood of any problems OUTDOORS. I would not hesitate to do it myself if that's the best tihng I had available.

Good luck,

Pat

I only use the mulch outdoors in my runs. I put down a layer of sand, then a layer of mulch on top. It really keeps the smell down. No muddy poopy smell. I've never used it inside my coops. I only use pine shavings in those.

I was driving to the feed store today and guess what?....I passed a tree crew cutting along the power lines. I stopped and gave them my address but when I got home tonight there was no mulch so maybe sometime this week I will have some. They never told me when.

Sorry for the peps who can't get it this way

Sometimes you have to really pester these guys to get you chip. Call several of the tree-trimming companies, it seems like there will be a dry spell, then suddenly everyone wants to dump! Once they find out you have an easy-to-access site, they will keep you on their call list if they are in the area.

Scratchn By first off I love your fizzle!!

I too get free mulch from the local tree trimmers, they are happy to get rid of it and I am happy to have it. I plan on getting at least 2 truck loads this summer since we are moving to the new farm and to put around all my plantings and for natural path ways between coops, ect.
