Mule Ducks

Anybody else with Mule duck photos?

MULE DUCKS:

We raised about 20 mule ducks this year, Rouen drakes on lilac muscovy hens. Most are Black with greenish/purplish heads and backs. Very beautiful, just can't get a good photo.

A bunch are blue with different irredescent sheen.

I like this one, can't get a good photo, but he looks like he has fish scales.

Love your hinnies. What do you do with them? They are infertile so of no breeding use.

I think I have one, too, but I'm not sure. This duck is the last of any mules we may have had at this lake. He quacks and gets a green head every year just like the other mallards, but he doesn't do any breeding at all, not even a flirt. During the molt, he turns totally black.

He's very, very old, too, just like his daddy.

I thought he might be a blackish mallard-hybrid, instead, but now that I see yours, I'm convinced this is a mule.

Because we butcher them I have not kept any hens over for the following year, but they should still lay eggs.​

Yeah, it's possible that he might be part Cayuga, but it's hard to tell. He never breeds, though, which is strange. Doesn't even seem to care about the girls. Or, maybe that's what he wants everyone to think.

He's been around for ages and there is one black muscovy duck there, too, who used to breed but doesn't anymore. Maybe they're both not breeding anymore because of their ages.

I would really, really, really like to know how well they lay. I would love to have a flock of Khaki x Muscovy crosses if they're going to look that lovely. Who cares about fertility? I'll just cope with beautiful birds and lots of lovely eggs (and tasty males).

Does anyone know how well they lay? If they are seasonal layers or if they lay year round?

I like the colors you get with the Skovie ducks but I dont like the red thing that grows on their faces. Do mules grown the crunckle or what ever its called. Oh, and a silly question, why didnt your drakes get a drake feather and is that the same with all mules. If they cant reproduce do they still get the urge!!
