I currently have 5 broody hens (bantam OEG) on 5 nests. the first clutch should be hatching at the end of the week, the 2nd a few days later and the rest all follow each other by a few days.
concern is that once the chicks start hatching, the other hens who are are sill waiting may give up on their eggs and want to mother the newly hatched chicks. does anybody know if this is a valid concern, LOL, or do I need to separate then into individual hatching areas so they wont have access to another hens chicks for now until all the eggs hatch?

If they've all been sticking to their nests, they'll probably see them through until the end. Unfortunately, you wont know until things get going, if they've never done this before.

And, I feel your pain. I've got 5 broodies myself. 3 of them have the same hatch date, the other 2 are at different times. They all seem to like to go broody around the same time, and they all stay with their eggs until they've hatched. Your results may vary.

Good luck.

yes they have been faithfully sticking to their nest, this is everybody first hatch. lol. they are 8 months old. I think I will just opt to take them from the flock group coop and put in separate area, but keep them together. unless someone has done this before with not so good results. I don't want all them to go into chick raising mode after the first clutch hatches and they completely abandon their eggs. lol
