The chickens free-range but I feed them food for layers, usually crumbles and try to buy an organic brand. Lately, I am feeding them Scratch and Peck Feeds Naturally Free Organic Layer 16%. For snacks, they love dry worms and sometimes I feed them cooked eggs or left overs from my kitchen, including meat and dairy.
I live in southern California (Downey). I have checked with a couple other chicken owners here in the area but they have not experienced anything similar.
I have read about the EDS as @LaFleche mentioned (thank you); and this sort of makes sense; unfortunately, treatment does not seem to be available.
I will try the cod liver @Perris-and will look into the niacin deficiency @Isaac 0 -thank you!
