Multiple Mended Eggs

I would go by Carol's instructions.
Thank you for the reminder. My apologies. I'm sure Marionette will be thrilled to not be bothered tonight. Hopefully she'll continue to lay beautiful eggs with the layer feed, and free choice oyster shell & eggshells. I'll be watching closely. Thank you both so much 😊

Marionette laid a nicely shelled beautiful little brown egg with speckles today! Hopefully this will continue, but I do remember her having a nice egg every so often and then I find a Mended egg, so I'll keep a close eye on her and her eggs. She was ticking a bit so she may be about to go broody 🙄

I'm glad the shell quality has improved!
LOL Love those broodies! Actually it may be good for her if she goes out of lay for a little while, it may give her reproductive system a break.
Are you going to let her hatch chicks? That would be sweet!

I have no idea how I missed this! My apologies. I would love to let her hatch some chicks but sadly this "Chicken Motel" has no vacancies. I would absolutely love to have some sweet little Serama chicks running around. If I'm not mistaken they don't breed true so each egg is a surprise, which I LOVE. The breeder that I purchased eggs from (that produced Marionette) is in NC, so I'd definitely buy from her again. She was amazing throughout the entire process. She shows her Seramas so I'd rather purchase eggs but she did offer me a cockerel that was close in age whenever Marionette's hatchmate died. You know all too well that I have too many boys here, so I couldn't knowingly add another. She's finally fitting in with my Dutch Bantams and their Silkie mama.

I can't decide if this is an internally mended egg or not. Do you see the place of concern? I know it's not easy to tell something like this over the internet, but I just don't know. I was going through writing dates on eggs and came across this one of Marionette's. The egg she laid the day before is shaped a bit odd. The egg she laid the day after looks near perfect and has a few calcium pimples. Any thoughts on this? Thank you for your time 💜

I'll get pictures of the eggs from the day before and the day after for comparison. I've got to get finished up at work first before my client gets back in under an hour 😳 I'll get those pics uploaded asap

I took pictures of the last several eggs laid by Marionette. I'm not convinced that the first one is hers. The color is off and looks like my Svart Hona but the size is a bit small for her. I believe I got the eggs mixed up. The one egg that I'm concerned about is definitely Marionette's and you can see calcium pimples on her other eggs. I don't know what to do for this little cutie patootie, or if I need to do anything with the possibly Mended egg. I tried candling and in the spot that I'm unsure about, it looks like liquid shell was poured over the area, if that makes sense. I can't tell if it was cracked before though

In this picture, they all look similar, except for the last one that was laid today. It's definitely her's as she's the only one that doesn't lay white eggs in that coop. The lightest egg that appears at the top of the line up is the oldest. She was strutting around with her hackles up so I'm thinking she may be going broody, AAAGGGGGGGAAAAAIIIIIIINNNNNNN 😂 If I remember correctly last time she laid eggs that had been mended internally, she was getting ready to go broody. She's not a dedicated sitter on an empty nest like my more stubborn Silkies, Svart Hona, and NN/Cochin mix, but she does go broody often. If I let her sit on an empty nest, she'll give it up in less than a week, but the broody temper remains. We're also having some hot humid weather and my Pekin duck has been laying soft shelled eggs. Not sure if this extremely uncomfortable weather has anything to do with it but I figured I'd mention it.

I think with a small dent I would wait and see.
Before an egg is laid, it's turned inside the vagina to get into the position to be expelled. Muscles of course contract to rotate the egg, so a small dent may be what's called a body check. I don't really see any mending, just a little dent.
If you notice the cracks and mending, then start again with the calcium.

That makes sense. Thank you for the explanation. I really appreciate it. I switched her over to 100% layer feed with eggshells and oyster shells available on the side and her flock is doing really well on it (Kalmbach Layer Crumbles). I've noticed all of their eggs have had nice shells so far so I'm going to keep them on it. I've started all of the other hens on Kalmbach layer pellets and even Mally, my chronic soft shell layer has been laying beautifully shelled eggs (~knock on wood~ there's always a possibility of her laying soft shelled eggs out of the blue) even while going through a light molt. Here's hoping things continue like this. Thanks again for everything 💜
