Okay here goes-I have 2 different pens with issues, one indoors in the basement, one outdoors. The inside chickens are in our basement, concrete floor with Aspen bedding. They range from 8-10wks old. Last week the kitchen sink pipes busted and it flooded part of the basement. The brooders got wet but we changed the bedding, moved them, and got the basement dry. About 2 days after the flooding the chickens started getting this really odd sagging eyelid issue and were sleeping while standing up. I started them on Tylan in their waterer and the very next day there was a marked improvement in the worst chick who had previous had bubbles in her eyes and watery discharge from eyes and nose. They've now been on it for 6 days. I was intructed to keep them on it for 14 when I bought it from First State Vet Supply so it's only about halfway through the treatment but they're just not changing a whole lot. They're eating very well, drinking normally, eyes are nice and clear and they're pretty active for the most part. I have no clue what they could have. I have another brooder down there with theirs and they are perfectly fine. It's only the ones who were in the brooder that got wet that are acting this way. I should add that I put a new chick in there with them but I had her quarantined for 3weeks before putting her down there and there was no sign of problems. I have never used the water soluble Tylan so if anyone else has, did you use it that long and is that normal for it to take awhile for it to heal them? I'm just at such a loss. Nothing in my chicken health handbook describes this at all or even close. They started sneezing the 2nd day on the Tylan but no discharge from anyone and no more super watery eyes from the really bad chicken.
Now outside is a different story. Out of no where one of my Spitz started laying around a lot so I went in and found that he had one eye completely shut with a yellowish-light brown colored discharge around his face coming from his nose. The other eye is open and looks completely normal, not cloudy or anything at all. He was also breathing funny. You could hear congestion when you listened to his chest but it wasn't like a bronchitis kind of congestion it was loose like when you have a bad cold and can spit it up when you cough-sorry but best way to explain it. I immediately gave him an injection of Tylan50 (this was yesterday) and this AM he was much more active, other eye was open and he had an appetite. After his second injection he's very sleepy and not at all active. Discharge was coming from his nose again and still gurgly breathing. Also he's sleeping with his tail up in the air. I am assuming given the symptoms I'm dealing with two different issues but I a absolutely terrified that I'm going to lose my babies. I have several other pens outside in close proximity to the pen that guy came from and the other chickens in his pen are now becoming sleepy (or maybe it's because it's a rainy day and I"m paranoid but there are other symptoms), closing just one eye, eyelids are becoming swollen and they're dry sneezing. They don't like to go indoors at night to sleep so they may have caught a chill, they're on bare ground which we put straw and grass clippings into as well. Good appetites still, normal drinking, and still active. I noticed it only this morning so it just started and I put the Tylan into both waterers for them.
Can someone PLEASE, please tell me what the heck is going on? I don't know what to do and I've never had sick chickens before. I'll be heartbroken if these guys don't make it, they're my babies!!! Thanks in advance for any help yall can give.
