Murray McMurray hatchery???????

Well, mine arrived safe and sound. They didn't have enough of the Crevecoeurs, so I was refunded for those and they put red star males in the batch. I should have called and asked them not to add any males

They need 15 to ship. Craigs list for the star males? Glad they are in good shape :D

Out of curiosity, did they actually list Red Star males on the packing list? When they have added to what I have ordered they have always just sent more of something in the order, but I usually have multiple breeds and/or an assortment in the order. If you only ordered one breed and they were short on them they would have to do something else. And second the Craigs list for Red Star males, they make really nice big roosters and are really nice eating, they do good on pasture also if you want to raise them for yourself.

hello all!

i just found this thread in researching Murray McMurray hatchery. i lost 5 chickens to coccidiosis and now that it is under control, im replacing the chickens i lost. MM is the best place i have found SLwyandottes, though they only have 2 female chicks available =(

in my order, i have:

Blue laced wyandottes (4 st. run)
silver laced wyandottes (1 male - 2 females)
silver polish (1 male - 3 females)
NH Reds (4 females) that i will be selling since i dont much care for them but i needed 15 chicks in the order.

they will be sent July 22.

wondering what the free extra chick breed will be? i live in NH and it gets cold here, im hoping they send a breed that is generally cold hardy... im kinda pushing it with the polish chickens i think, never had those before.

the reviews look ok, so hoping my order comes ok. do they band the chicks or make any note of which chick is what breed?

Keep checking the availability of the chicks you want right until the shipping Friday, everyday if you can. What they will take pre-orders for is what they estimate will hatch. As they check the eggs, or as orders change or are canceled, they may have more available, but you have to be fast on popular breeds :) Easiest way I know to do that is to just keep the birds you want in your cart and check date availability... you can also call and they will look it up for you, but I find the website faster.

I have had 10 or so BLRW from them, most of them were splash laced by the way. So if you really want Blue-BLRW I would consider upping this part of the order maybe?

The free extra chick is usually something from the crested, cochin or rare/unusual group or an EE. They just seem to pick a chick randomly, and do not seem to check where you live. They do usually send something different than what you have ordered. For instance I have never gotten a polish chick as a freebee when I have had polish in the order.

They will mark chicks by sex or breed if you ask them to.... you have to ask them to do this on the phone so far as I know.

i did read that the BLRW are usually splash which is disappointing, but im really looking to replace my SLW, so its not a huge deal. it would be nice, and ill probably keep them if they look ok, but if not, it will just be more incentive to sell them off (my fiance already calls me the crazy chicken lady lol) with the NH Reds. i also am assuming the silver polish chickens are the silver *laced* polish chickens. but again, doesnt really matter. i was hoping for white crested black, but it shows that they have like, nothing for availability for a while. anyone get any "silver polish" chickens from them and have photos? would like to see the kind of quality.

i double checked the shipping date and it is a monday, so ill let my post office know and hopefully they will call me when they arrive. im only about 5 minutes from them, but ive never shipped chicks and i dont know if thats something they regularly receive or not.. guess ill find out. but from what ive found, they refund ok?

i just placed my order there. i called them up too and asked if the extra chick can be a cold hardy breed. i was worried they may send something that doesnt do well in the cold and since i live in NH, that wouldnt be very good! she said she will add a note to my order for a cold hardy breed.

i hope they dont send me a rooster but she said they pull them as straight run, so im probably going to get a rooster lol! and probably an easter egger at that, since i already have 8 (and 2 more roosters that hopefully just found a home) and thats just my luck. but then, even if its a EE, as long as its a pullet, i could always give it to my mom.

keeping my fingers crossed!
