Murray McMurray hatchery???????

I have ordered from them 2 x so far. First order ever last year ordered mostly different breed pullets and 4 blrw straight run I got 4 barred rock pullets 5 partridge rock 6 ee's 2 buff Orpington 2 speckled Sussex 1 gold laced polish 1 Jersey giant rooster. I received. 1 extra Jersey giant rooster and my mystery chick. 27 lost the polish the 1st day. The rest did fine until week 2 water got empty and they knocked the waterer on one of the speckled Sussex chicks. I sold 2 partridge rock and 2 barred rock ladies at 15 weeks and separated out 4 of the 5 roosters. The mystery chick is I think a silver Phoenix rooster. He is the very best rooster. Very alert but non aggressive toward people. Only 1 that's supposed to be a girl was a boy ee. And I got 3/4 females with blrw. They are not blue though 3 are splash 1 small hen with white lacing. Overall I'm very happy but the ee rooster is not nice. He is in with the other 3 rooster. (i wanted to make a Jersey giant flock so I kept them all for body heat I live in maine). Fast forward to my first shipment of this year I knew it was a gamble ordering this early. I wanted them to start laying before Oct like my other batch. They shipped on a Monday and the weather forecast decided to blow us a cold snap that week. It was 5 degrees out when I picked them up. I was informed they had arrived 6 pm the night before and no one had called I called ahead of time and asked them to call me when they arrived . I called 5 am Thursday morning to see if they were there. I covered the box rushed them to the super warm car and rushed them home. But it was chickie Armageddon 8 doa. I called McMurray and they told me to call back on Monday to report mylosses where customer service is closed on weekends. they dropped like flies for the first 2 days in the end I ended up with 8 out of 31 chicks. They are almost 3 weeks now and growing like weeds next week they move to the brooder in the barn they will be fully feathered almost by then. I called customer service back and I had them credit my losses towards payment of my next order in April.lesson learned no shipping chicks to maine before april. Next order 6 true blue whiting pullets 1 Roo. And 15 ornamental pullet pack. I can't wait for. I have chickie fever. Very polite helpful staff. Oh yes and I can request different breeds to be marked as long as it's not an assorment. You just have to ask customer service. I will be ordering from them again to raise started pullets to sell I'm very impressed with them. All my 15 ladies are laying fairly well eggs getting bigger every week my biggest buff orphinton her eggs top out my egg scale at 10 mos old!

My friend's dad just got 50 chicks from Murray Mc Murray hatchery(25 meat birds 25 layers) . So far there all healthy and well and none have died yet. I'll try to post some pics soon if I can. Oh yeah I think there last birds were from the same place and they were all really good stock ,beautiful birds really, some of them started eating there own eggs though and they weren't that friendly but then again they didn't really interact with them that much so yeah. If I was to order my chicks on line I would probably get them from MMM. Hope this helps!

For all those who have expressed concern about MM shipping on Friday, I just spoke to a MM rep on the phone, and their policy this year is to ship on Tues, Wed, Thurs so that chicks arrive no later than Sat and do not sit at the PO over the weekend.
I just talked to McMurray about an order that I am expecting next week. I was informed that they are shipping Mon-Wed now. I feel much better about that and hope that USPS handles their box well enough that they are not to stressed when they arrive. I do know that my post office receives mail first thing in the morning between 6-8 am. When I get my ship notification from McMurray, I may call my local post office and make them aware so that they call me as soon as they arrive. I would like to get them first thing at morning and get them in the brooder.

Both times I ordered chicks my post office called before 6am to let me know they were there and to have me come pick them up.

I've only placed one order, which was Feb 2015.

17 white rock hens
3 white orp hens
1 white orp roo
1 freebie

We ended up with 7 roos - 6 that were suppose to be hens. I know there's a chance of having a chick turn out to be a roo even when you order hens, but 6 of 20 is way too many.

We also had 4 Jumbo CxR, which I think is why the free Polish didn't survive the trip. CxR chicks are huge and heavy and the little Polish just couldn't take being jostled around in the mail with them.

Other than the issue of too many roos, the birds were all healthy and happy. We ordered from a local hatchery this year and now appreciate how healthy McMurray's birds are, so we will definitely order from them again.

I've read that they have excellent customer service, but we didn't know for sure that they were roos for several months (we're new to roos). By then it didn't seem right to call. We received the chicks Feb 2015, so it's definitely too late to call now. lol I'll keep this in mind for our next batch from MM.

I ordered 26 pullets of varied breeds from Murray Mcmurry in Feb 2016. They were purchased vaccinated for mereks and coccidiosis. I lost 1 to coccidiosis at 7 or 8 weeks (vet thought it was mereks but necropsy showed coccidiosis) and spent over $100 on another one battling the same illness. I ended up with 2 roosters, a speckled Sussex and a golden wyandotte. One of the other sussex has very deformed toes that turn back. One of the dominecker pullets has a very deformed beak but has managed to eat and drink and make it to 14 weeks old. And last but not least one of the partridge rocks has a bad hip. It wont stay in socket. So 7 of the 26 have/had issues of varying severity.

Anyone know Murray McMurray Hatchery's NPIP #? I got my chicks from the grain store and they didn't have it handy but mentioned the chicks came from them. I'd appreciate it! Makes keeping track of NPIP stuff a bit of a challenge.

I've placed 3 orders from MM. The first order of 3 pullets came with no problems. The second order of 1 BO came but it was only 10-12 weeks old, not the pullet I had paid for. The third order was just canceled due to my pullet dying. This is the last time I will deal with MM. 2 out of 3 orders not filled makes a very unhappy customer. Good luck to those who choose this route.
