I have a question about Murray McMurray Hatchery's track record regarding their overall chick health.
Has anyone ordered from them and if so, what was your overall experience with their service and the quality and health of the chicks.? Are their chicks anywhere near show quality or will I have to just save and order a Foley trio of SLW's like I was kinda figuring.?
Again, any help is appreciated and thank you ahead of time.

I've ordered from Murray McMurray Hatchery on several occasions (including SLWs) and have never lost more than a couple of chicks total from all those orders and they have always put a couple of extra chicks in the boxes. The have been easy to work with and I have been very happy with their service. As far as show quality, I've never entered any of the chickens I got from MMH in any competitions. The SLWs were beautiful chickens, but whether or not they were show quality I cannot say. Maybe someone else can give you that information, but for personal use I highly recommend the hatchery. Hope this helps.

My family ordered 15 chicks from them. They threw in one surprise chick and an extra of one of the breeds we ordered. Chicks arrived at our post office all safe and warm. None were lost. All the chicks were healthy. The only one we had problems with was our polish chick with pasty vent but that was after and in the brooder(he wouldn't use the cooler area of the brooder). Our chicks are about 6 to 8 weeks old, so as for show quality? I'm not sure yet. We haven't shown any birds yet and are inexperienced on what show quality would look like. If your interested in future pics of them older, we had ordered ameracaunas, buff orphingtons, barred plymouth rocks, turkens, and silver laced polish.

Whatever hatchery you choose, I wish your chicks a safe journey and a good happy life

Thanks very much Michael and kadoer, I appreciate the input.
My chicks will be coming to our local feed store from MMH and all the chicks they order are from there and looked like they were in fabulous condition. They're able to order all year for me so that works out wonderfully.
My plan is to raise the SLW's for eggs and meat if roosters since my neighbors would have kittens if I had a roo. lol Once I feel knowledgeable enough to care for a more expensive trio of the Foley line I will just make a deal with the neighbors for free eggs or something. Maybe I will share the broilers I plan to get for our freezer will soothe the raucous roosters interrupting them during the day, most do work though so it may be okay. lol
The Foley SLW's are my dream stock. Then, I would love to get some Sultans because I think they are beautiful and stately. However, I want to breed the SLW's and sell fertilized eggs and chicks. It's my bucket list dream and I want to fulfill it before the arthritis I have throughout my joints makes it a non-option.
I'm so glad I found a place I can a billion questions without people getting bored or annoyed.

Thank you again,
