Murray McMurray rare breed cockerel at age 20 weeks

To be fair to McMurray, they never labeled the chick as rare. They don't say you get a free rare chick, they call them a "Surprise Gift" their list of chicks you could get includes several non rare breeds, the idea is you will get something that is unusual, not rare. Usually farmers order a ton of production egg layer hens, the free chick is often times a EE because MMcM is hoping that it is a hen, a farmer who always has brown egg layers would be amazed to get a green egg or blue egg from his free chick. This happened to me several years ago, we got an EE hen for are free chick that would lay green eggs. The list they provide includes rare breeds and just unusual birds like feather legged or crested birds and giant breeds and EE.
