Murry McMurry Hatchery?

I received my first chicks from McMurray on June 5th and they were all alive and healthy. I called them to add on to my order about a week before it was shipped and the customer service was also great. I will definitely order from them when I need more. I ordered 36 and they sent 3 extras. I ordered 10 Barred Rock pullets, 10 Silver Leghorn pullets, 4 Golden Polish pullets, 4 Silver Polish pullets, 4 Buff Silkies straight run, and 4 Blue Silkies straight run. They sent the free exotic chick which is a White Crested Black Polish, one extra Buff Silkie, and one extra Blue Silkie. Overall a great experience with McMurray.

When you find the bird(s) you want at a reputable hatchery, if they have a 25-chick minimum, see if you can get 1 or even more people to go in on an order with you at the same time and split the shipping costs.

thats odd... Most of their breeds you can order 1-100 last time I checked. I have seen some where the minimum is 25! I personally live in a little town, big house small yard, close to my neighbors (like heyy I can watch the neighbors watch their TV close! Not that I do that...

) so I am good enough with 6 chickens until I buy a small house fit for one and a bigg yard

more yard+me=MORE CHICKENS!!!

Im very happy about my RIR and surviving Leghorn. They are so friendly! If you have a pic of your exoctic chick maybe someone/I will be able to help! I have never gotten a mystery chick though. I have strict rules of hens only until I get my own house and big yard

I will certainly do that, as soon as I can identify which chick might be the exotic one. The chicks spend so much time running away from me, flying and fluttering about, and generally causing so much ruckus that it is difficult to get a handle on them. I will keep trying and will definitely post a pic for help with identification. Thanks again!

Most hatcheries usually don't get rid of breeds; they're more likely to add more breeds. If you're looking for low minimums, you might want to consider Meyer (3 chick minimum I believe) or Ideal (which only has a dollar limit of $25 and not a chick limit, so as long as your chicks add up to at least $25, it doesn't matter how few you're ordering. If your order is small, however, they'll add extra males for warmth unless you request that they don't).

where do I find a catalog on these 2 hatcheries? I'll do a search for starters.

I have gotten from them RED STAR,BLACK STAR & BLACK AUSTRLOP ON 6/20/2011 all pulletts,

TOTAL 51 +1 REAR CHICK all chicks are very healthy and strong I would buy again from them again. MURRAY MC MURRAY is the best hatchery for me.

I have not personally but my aunt in Nebraska has ordered from them every spring for years and they have had very good experiences with them. They order 25 white leg horns and 25 cornish rock every year and they always get a couple of extra surpises as well

I got an order last winter of Silver Spangled Hamburgs. I ordered too early and lost most of the order. They were good about it, though. The birds that did survive are nice looking birds. Not exhibition quality, but better than what I'd consider pet quality. They'd probably work well for the 4-H level.
