I Was Reading Somewhere And Read That Muscovies Dont Swim. Is This True?

Absolutely not true..some of mine go back and forth to my neighbors pond..some choose not to. But I can assure you..they swim like ducks!!

we cant keep ours OUT of the pond! well once they figured out thats what it was - they are excellent swimmers and love the water.

Muscovies swim. Some don't swim much. My adults like to take a bath but don't stay in the water much. The juvies like to swim around and get crazy once or twice a day spashing and jumping out of the pool, running down the hill flapping their "not so small" wings then running back up the hill jumping back into the pool to do it all over again.

It's a hoot to watch and I'm always yelling at them to "watch the babies!" ... "don't run over the babies!" So far no casualties.

The little ones like to soak in their 2.5gl tubs on hot days but don't do much swimming but that may be due to the big kids taking over the swimming pools.

Mine swim too but don't spend much time in the brook. They prefer to hang out with the chickens out grazing.
