Muscovies in US - REGULATION CHANGES OPEN FOR COMMENTS - 10/1 update

If there is anything I can do to help please let me know! I don't currently own muscovies but I do know many people who do and am planning on getting some (was supposed to be later in the spring) for my son.

Thank you for that clarification Ron.
While this may be the law or regulation, (whatever it is)
I doubt it will be enforced unless there is a direct link to
somebody who is abusing this regulation such as being
a person known to release alot of Muscovies on a lake or river etc.
BUT! Thats not to say we shouldn't protest this.

Ron I emailed Brain but haven't heard back from him.
I'll try to call him soon.
I also emailed Cat the gal that has the Muscovy
Forum who by the way banned me from the forum for
unknown reasons.
I hardly ever went there.
Not sure what thats all about and she won't email me why.

Hey Ron PLEASE stay out of the hospital!
My prayers are with you!

Okay, this was posted on a list I'm on. People PLEASE BE POLITE!!

This man said he wasn't aware that people loved muscovies and he's willing to listen to us. So let's flood his office with POLITE, good information. I know we have some very well educated, passionate people on here.

We can get this turned around or at least the wording changed.

"I just talked to Dr Allen who wrote the new Muscovy Laws and he is a responsible and reasonable person! He said when the law was under construction, he had no idea about the special interest people for the ducks, or how many were out there. I believe this much, duck owners are really UPSET and coming out of the woodwork in force.

People have been calling him that have "show ducks" and/or small farms who use the ducks and eggs for their own consumption. Some of our group uses the Muscovy for educational purposes. I am concerned with the ducks on urban ponds belonging to Home Owners Associations. Regrettably, any duck out in the open (not on private property or in 3 counties in Texas)will still be in trouble. Any duck wild and out of it's home range is considered a threat to the native species.

He is willing to revise this law if he knows HOW TO ACCOMMODATE us.

He is taking suggestions! Either call or send this man an email.
He is advising his officers to take no action because this need revision!

BE NICE!!!!!!HE will work with us!

While we are considering what to ask of the FWS when we contact them about changing the new regulations., I am wondering how they will deal with allowing muscovies in backyard flocks in view of their stated intent to require some kind of identification on each duck and only into a permitted business.
Would that translate into the same level of control on the muscovy in a backyard flock?
I personally don't want to see permits, registration, ID tags, bands, microchips, whatever else, becoming required in any way for backyard flocks.
It opens up whole new mechanisms of control which can become expanded and abused.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to mitigate these concerns in a way that would seem reasonable to the FWS in light of their stated intent of stopping the spread of an invasive species?

YES!! Thank you Kathy and also Parrotchick! You have made a huge breakthrough!

Let's stay focused folks so this thread stays open, there are links to it all over the web now and it seems to be the best place so far to keep a current and thorough understanding of what is happening on this front.
