What about "marking" birds over 6 weeks of age? I noticed the law says it has to do with "marking" them as ducklings, but many people here on BYC have older ducks.

Also, does this law mean that someone must exterminate the feral ducks even if they're not causing a problem in all states? We have an old Muscovy drake that's been at our public lake for years and is not a problem at all. He's the last of several that have been there for at least 10 years. He's only created one or two mules and is completely docile. Everyone loves him and he's a real sweetie. He's very old in age and may not live a whole many years longer. What about ducks like him? Can someone take him and give him a new home? Or, will that be against the law?

Or tatooing w/disernable ltr/num. on web of one footsie. Which is what I am considering. There are kits out there around $50.00 and since they require marking by 6wks of age seems the simpliest for me since I am not fond of chopping off a wing tip or toe. Bands will need changing out as they grow

since Scovies still grow like weeds fm 6wk up..... which I DID comment on in one of my emails to Dr. Allen.

You will be required to mark the ducks you have regardless of the age.​

I think (or hope), we will get some warning if anything was happening that would threaten him from the lake staff/friends of the lake. Someone would definitely take him to a safe place because they almost did before when his last friend died.

A small backyard flock raised for personal consumption miight be exempt, but the way I'm reading it any sales of birds or even hatching eggs are giong to involve a boatload of red tape. If I'm reading this wrong and you are seeing something that I'm not please point it out to me. I'd love to find out that I'm wrong.

I have really tried to follow along, but I am confused- I need the "Muscovy Laws for Dummies" version.

I have six muscovies- two have been pinioned, the others have not. My big drake has angel wing on one wing severely- I could probably have my boss remove the "angel" part of his wing under anesthesia, thereby pinioning him but he will never be able to fly anyhow. The others will need to be marked some other way-
but what I am trying to understand is, do I need to say that they are for food production (i eat their eggs)? The will not be allowed to be pets?
And for their future offspring? Not allowed or I will just need to pinion any resulting babies?
