Muscovies?????

Neither are boring I've had both Pekins and Muscovies, I had a pekin that would play fetch, he would acctually chase the ball and roll it back to me with his beak. its true that muscovies do act like dogs theyll follow you around and beg for treats and are full of personality. very lovable birds. Anyways you cant really say anything about the breeds until you have had the privilege of raising one.

Well i own 6 muscovies and 1 pekin and to me the muscovies r the best. They are quiet and r gr8 mothers. HTey do not have "worts" on there face it is called coricles and it is skin to protect there face and was origanlly black for comafluage. Also blue, and black variety muscovies are very pretty and they are very smart. I trieaned mine to come on comand and walk right into there pen. They are the only breed of duck not related to mallards and they win lots of shows. The national poultry show with 11,000 birds was won by a black muscovy drake plus my male wins bes waterfowl agianst lots of other birds in shows with birds of upto 3,000.
Hi there! I have over 300 Muscovies and would like to get involved in showing a few of them. Would you be able to give me any pointers on how I might be able to get started? I've never shown any type of bird before, so this is completely new to me! Also, do you have any Self-blue Muscovies? Mine fell victim to a pretzel that the neighbor tossed over the fence to him.

I agree, Muscovies are VERY smart! Mine also respond to commands,..well really they aren't so much commands as they are requests, which 9 times out of 10 they will gladly go along with. I'd also love to see a few photos of your Muscovies, I'm interested in seeing in what other people have as I'm looking for a few colors I don't currently have. Have you had any luck in breeding for a calico colored Muscovy? I've heard they are very rare, and I'd like to try, but I'm not entirely sure which ducks to breed together to get that color combination. Any suggestions?

i dont know what calico and self blue muscovies r? i stick to the registered colors that r showable! those colors r blue, black, white, and chocolate! i have blue and blacks. to shw muscovies r very easy just give them water to clean themselves off in. the best muscovies r 1s with lots of full even red caraculs or skin on there face. If they blue or black or chocolate muscovies they should have even coloring and lacing on there feathers. the males always do better than females. they should not have black skin on there caraculs, if they r over a year they should develope white on there wings and other questions just ask i hoped i helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Self Blue is Lavender. This color has been worked on for quite a few years now and will hopefully be admitted into the standard at some point.

the prob with the self blue is that even though the color is good i have not seen a single lavender with good caraculs and none have white on there wings!

The Drake has white on his wings. The problem with all newer colors is they take time to reach for the standard. However, in some breeds certain colors have traits harder to breed up for. For example White Silkies have some of the largest crests compared to other color morphs.
people just keeping mixing muscovy colors and r getting mud i have seen so many BAD muscovies that the breeders mixed chocolate and blue that people should focuse first on body type and caraculs then new varieties!!!!!
