Muscovy club?

I think many people may be discouraged from the issues that occurred from the last attempt at a club. I think it's a great idea that has a lot of potential to be useful with proper management.

need some opinions on what everyone would like to see but do not need to argue about it just polite discussion. i have the central louisiana poultry club that i have to focus on but am glade to help out with this one if there is any interest with at least 3 people who are willing to put in the time and work needed to get the club up and running

I would like to see a friendly demeanor. In my opinion many people are turned off by breed clubs because they are made to feel like outsiders. Since in many areas Muscovies are considered pests it would be nice if some time could be used to inform people on there options when having to deal with them. Some serious research into the history of the Muscovy duck would be beneficial as well.

i havent tried to join any other clubs so i wouldn't know about that. in our club everyone is welcome from toddlers to seniors, from pure breeds to mixes, all types of poultry, ducks, geese, ect. we dont want anyone to feel left out or not welcomed as that is not one of our goals. we want our club to be fun for all and informative with a great support system. we have it to were you can either pay your dues or "work" off your dues.

If you don't show now and are not a member of the APA, why do you care what varieties are recognized or not? There's nothing that prevents you from keeping any variety that you like.
The Heavy Duck club was organized several years ago, and it failed from lack of interest. Heavy ducks include Muscovies. The IWBA covers all breeds of domestic waterfowl, and their numbers are dwindling. The National Call Breeders of America is doing better, because that breed os so popular, but good luck finding the interest in a club dedicated to a single breed of waterfowl, especially if you're only willing to throw the idea out there and hope that someone else will run with it and do all of the work.

Well, the the only birds I have that I consider decently colored are my unshowable ones. I would show (and am planning to this fall, if I get some nicely marked ducklings) my blacks and blues, but they're not up to par. If my memory is correct, the only bird show that does Muscovies in NC is the state fair. I think.
I haven't heard of the IWBA before—thanks for mentioning it! That's sad that it might be dying . . . and that their events calendar still says 2012.
(I'm pretty sure that I'm too young to be starting a poultry club. I know that's a sad excuse, but it's not an excuse.)
Thanks for the help!

Does a club have to be centrally located? Meaning, can members of the club be from all over? I would be very interested in a Muscovy club, especially one where the focus is education about the breed including proper care and uses (eggs, pest control, meat, pets), and at least provided information on showing, breeding, etc. I do not know what the duties of a clubmember would be, but I do have free time and would be interested in being a part of something like this!

I have a growing flock in Central Oregon and love these ducks!

Also, looking for some 'scovie hens of almost any age if anyone happens to know of any for sale in the Pacific Northwest! (not to get off topic)
