I notcied today my muscovy drake's knees bend the wrong way when he walks. They'll bend out a bit then pop back with each step. He didn't seem to be hesitant to move around and seems otherwise fine. Anyone know if this is a common problem or if this will be an issue?

I know that sometimes Muscovies for one breed can get too heavy and that can cause their legs to weaken and buckle. Our farmer neighbors down the road only seem to feed their ducks cracked corn (that I see), and I've seen their ducks legs doing that. She says because they're fat.

It could be a niacin deficiency how old is your drake? My last Muscovy drake was heading towards 13 yrs when I lost him. I make sure my flock gets nutritional yeast mixed into their feed daily for strong legs. Feeding nothing but corn will def fatten them up but sure isn’t going to help with nutritional needs. Also liquid BComplex is rec when one appears to have leg issues. 1 ml daily can help get their legs back strong again. TSC carries Durvet liquid B Complex

I feed purina flock raiser. He also will eat the scratch grain I throw out and scraps I feed the chickens. I’m not sure his age but he’s definitely at least 2-3 years old. Could be much older. I thought ducks only needed niacin as ducklings but I will look into it.

Adult ducks don’t need as much niacin as ducklings do, but they still need some of it. He should be getting some niacin from his feed, but it’s very possible it’s not enough, or maybe the scratch and scraps are messing with his nutrient intake.
