I inherited a small coop when I bought my property and have added additions. They, 20 chickens and 7 ducks, have 800sq feet of screened and enclosed space, a backyard, a front yard and a two acre pasture to roam about, all fenced. They are happy and I love my rooster and I put up with my two male ducks because the females seem to like them even though they rape them frequently. My issues aren't around their sexual behaviors but about how many, if not all, the hens want to lay their eggs in the "broody nests." They push each other off and I can't keep up with the activity on and off the nests., three in total. Plus I travel and my neighbor takes care of them when I'm gone.

Specifically, I have a few marked eggs and those should hatch within seven days if fertile. The other two nests happened when I was gone and none are marked. Also, I'm in Texas. Much of the coop flooded but we dried it out quickly many times. I'm not sure if the three nests got two wet.

I sell my eggs. This broody phase is costing me business because once before NONE of the sixteen chicken and duck eggs hatched. This time I have triple that. I'd love for my girls to experience motherhood and raise the chicks. I worry that nothing is going to come to fruition. I think you get my drift.

Any suggestions?
