I think this is pretty normal behavior. Ours used to do this before we clipped one side of their wings. In the wild they naturally roost in trees so they like to be up high :) I suggest looking into clipping their wings if you'd like them to stay on the ground :)

We learned the hard way as well, we came out of our house one morning and our 2 muscovies were 2 houses down on our neighbors roof lol luckily they came back for some feed :) we looked into clipping right away after that. Our female can still get in the air a bit but not on a roof anymore.
