Hi, sorry if I sound unintellegable about ducks it's just that I'm new. Recently my mum and I have seen our muscovy drake and our Rouen duck mating, but it was in their pool and not on land, both times. The Muscovy hasn't even got it's facial skin through yet and the Rouen has only just matured, I think. Our Rouen is about four months and our Muscovy only about two. Should I provide hay in the place I think they will build the nest?:)

I would put hay in the shelter just so they have a cozy place. The hen probably won't go broody (sit on eggs) for another few months, and not till springs more then likely.

Just so you know, the cross between the 2 will have offspring that will be sterile.

Enjoy your ducks!

They may not have been mating at all. Our muscovies do this when they are both in the pool, and they are female. Its a dominance thing. I looked at the pictures you posted and your muscovy looks like a female but maybe not? Do you know for sure if its a male?

Wheres the pic?

In the domanence thing does the one on top hold the others neck-feathers?

Nope, it's definitely mating, I watched a video on YouTube and compared differences and similarities......... It was identicle to my ducks mating.

Yes they do. Our females do it all the time and if I didn't know they were both females I would assume they were mating too.....there is no difference aside from my girl (whom is always on top during this behaviour) not having a penis
