Muscovy egg on day 35, still has not internally pipped yet

@KathiQuacks @Miss Lydia I’ve decided to open the egg today to check after still seeing no movement, I’ve just opened it, here is a photo and video, what does this mean and what do I do now?

Is it still alive? I think I’d make a tiny slit (avoiding veins) in that membrane above its bill to make sure it can breathe. But I’ve never had this situation so hopefully someone who has can help.

I see lots of veins so I would like to believe it’s still alive but I’m not sure I want to disturb the membrane at all until I know I should, for the meantime I’ve put it immediately back into the incubator so it didn’t get cold or dry enough

The veins make me think it’s alive, too, but there’s no movement at all.. If you can avoid the veins, you could certainly try making a hole in the membrane like you said. Not sure why they haven’t internally pipped, they look to be in prime position to me.

Alright I think I will try that how would I go about slicing the membrane?

Also just to make sure, this is the bill?

Surgical scissors could be good. Scalpel? Maybe even just tweezers to pinch and pull it apart.. Avoid veins, and it should be okay. The picture you posted is of the ducklings’s head with the end of the bill near the top of the screen. I’d try to make the hole near the nares / nostrils.
