No, I did not see her fly away. She was gone when I went to tuck them in late in the afteroon. They are all in an enclosed yard with a fence. I am looking everywhere on the property, and have asked the neighbors to keep an eye out for her. I find it amazingshe is gone, too. The most I had seen get was about 20feet, but when I saw her do that the day before yesterday I knew it was time to clip the wings.
After my 13 week old flew away yesterday, if you will be sad if they fly away, I suggest you clip at the proper time.
I clip mine, if you have Muscovy that aren't clipped there will always be some risk of them getting curious and flying off.
I clipped the first yr, but after that I haven't. The person I got mine from warned me they could fly away searching for their old home if they weren't penned up for at least 2 weeks and if they were old enough. But, mine came to me as ducklings.
I'd be looking for a predator. One of mine disappeared earlier this summer and I wouldn't know what happened to her, but we have camera footage and a fox carried her off.
I am pretty sure she flew out of the yard, but unfortunately, believe that she may have met her demise by something. She was only 13 weeks and no experience flying. Her advantages, trying to be positive, are that she is extremely wary, she is very small which I think is why she was the first to be able to fly, and she was very independent. She was always the last in the coop and didn't mind being separate from the raft. To solace my sadness, I think about how she was able to open her unclipped wings and fly!!
That sounds plausible. My girl was the small one too. I saw she was basically caught off guard and cornered. Some things are better not known. ❤
