Muscovy incubators support group.

All my Muscovy eggs have a pretty obvious waxxy layer & feeling to them, usually off white or tan looking. he pekin eggs i get and other ducks eggs have never felt waxxy like the scovy eggs

I have 24 shipped muscovy eggs that are supposed to hatch April 24. This support group is a good idea because it seems like the days go by so slowly. My mother and I candled all 24 and out of the 24, 23 were developing!!!!!!!!!

I candled my eggs - due to hatch a week from Thursday- last night. Each egg from this first group had veining/movement

and of the second group the remaining three eggs, I only saw a moving blob in one egg and the other two look real iffy but I left them in.

Time goes by sooooooooooo slow...

Can't wait til I can candle my eggs and see how many are growing

I'm only at the beginning of day 4. I'm pretty sure my chickens were 2/3 done by the time i'd waited this long

Our Muscovy eggs feel waxy too. Maybe someone with some more experience will chime in...

I was out of town for Easter and we had 2 power outages!!! Last Wednesday I had 10 moving duckling blobs when I checked them this morning there were 2. I put them all back in and prayed they were just "sleeping".

ZephyrCreek- I"m anxious to hear about your hatch!!

Mom2emAll- How many out of the original are still going strong?

So far I have 1 baby out of it's egg & a few more pipping. These are Zima's eggs I had to bring in because they looked so scattered in development.

so far 3 babies haven't made it, they died before pipping. almost looked too dry but my humidity was at 75%, so i'm not sure what happened.

So I am working on getting my new bator up to temp.

Currently at 97.5 with 55% humidity.

I am shooting for 99.5 with 55% humidity.

It should be good by the time I get out of work, so I will be putting 2 and 1/2 dozen in the bator.....There was a Pekin mating with a Scovy in the eggs I have, so hopefully I don't end up with too many mules!

I know Pekin don't fly, but do the Muscovys fly much? I know they get from here to there, but do they tend to take off, I am going to have them free range with no enclosure.

I always keep my new ducks in the pen for at least 3-7 days before letting them free range, them they know where home is and know where to go at night.

The Pekin/Muscovy mule I had never flew, she was a small fatty. Black & white in color.
My muscovies will fly around a bit, more so the younger girls that don't have that 'mommy weight' yet.
