Crazy4Fowl: I thought Muscovies were ugly and am still leaning in that direction with my male. I wouldn't consider you mean for your observation. I now really like my ducks because they are so quiet and well-behaved. To be honest, I got the Muscovies because they were the only ducks I could find at the time I needed ducks (we did have a female Muscovy when I was in high school). I was hesitant and would not have a male if the breeder hadn't thrown in one for free. I definately considered the male ugly and, as noted, am still not sure I'd consider him cute. So your question was a completely valid one. Many people think muscovies are ugly. It's only when you learn more about them and find out how cool they really are that you just look past that nasty red stuff and learn to love them!

Catching him and holding onto him will be hell. But I don't think that's the problem as he only does it every once in a while. Not a lot. Could it just be a cold or something? I did give them electrolytes today and will give probiotics tomorrow. He's eating and drinking normally and acts normal besides that gurgle n cough when talking alot.

I've never been around a muscovy, but I've seen their huge legs and taloned feet! I'd imagine having to catch and hold a reluctant Scovy would be akin to trying to wrangle a VERY ornery goose!

Yeah, muscovies definitely have a face only a mama could love! But from what I hear they do have such wonderful personalities. <3
