We keep our home about 70. He is staying on the side of the lamp. The top of the box we keep open for ventilation I gave him a small snuggle toy. He is snuggled up. He's pooped several times and peeps when I disturb him. I need to get a thermometer. I think it's not too warm cause when I pick him up he's not hot but not cold. He does like to snuggle our neck. Lol.

Swim time??? Try the food in the tub.

Do you know the temps in his box? it is very important we keep track of that because they can get over heated under heat too. Or too cold you can usually tell if too cold they will be directly under the heat or too hot they will get as far away as possible. Hopefully he has a box big enough he can get out from under it if he gets to warm. An inexpensive thermometer will be good to have.Place heat lamp at one end if you have it right in the middle so he can get away from heat if he wants. When i had my tiny duckling in just hatched I had a towel I kept over my shoulder and when I'd sit down he would climb under that towel in the crook of my arm and sleep just like he was getting under mamas feathers. What is your house temp? First week the temps in brooder should be 85-90 I always kept them at 85 in a non draft room each week there after 5* lower. till they are feathered in so by by week 6 they are able to handle 60* temps.

When I say a towel over my shoulder most of the towel was hanging down in front just enough towel over my shoulder to hold it in place. They love to snuggle up around your neck too.

are you talking about FULL Feathering at 6 weeks? Because I have see adult feathers coming in at 3 weeks. My seven babies are outside right now and they are only 4 weeks but they have a lot of adult feathers in already.

I got so many black ducklings this year, last time i counted all my muscovys it was around 70.

I've tried and tried. He will not take it on his own. I've given him tiny drips of water out of the syringe. I've but him in a little warm water. He will barely hold his head up. I've snuggled him. He peeps so softly. I feel he's giving up guys. He cannot walk now.

OH NO, have you tried the bath thing yet?? If he's not holding his head up, you can't do it now. Not walking? is he getting any vitamins?

Around 12:30 our sweet baby took his last breath. He died being warm and loved. I feel like we did what we could. He was the last of 14 who died.

Large lessons learned about late season hatchlings and cold weather here in eastern KY. Next year, we will be better prepared. Thank you to everyone for your sympathy and kindness. Thanks for offering tips to help us. It's wonderful to have a community who gets it and our crazy love for these "land ducks".

Interesting subject... I have five ducklings that are the same age, but one of them had a nasty broken leg (bone sicking out), so I brought it inside to heal and it is not nearly as feathered out as the other four. Strange that four have all their feather, but this on has half as many.

Not trying to make a point, just sharing because I had not seen this before.

How old are they? Mine have always started to get there adult feathers in, first it starts at the chest and down towards the tail. They would still have the baby head feathers and some baby feathers on there wings but at 3 weeks they are ready to go outside permanently. I have noticed though, if I move the baby feathers out of the way, even though you can't see them yet just by looking at them but if I move the baby feathers out of the way you can see all these adult feathers coming in..

I have a question for you Kathy. How does a completely BABY YELLOW duck, END up with 90% Black adult feathers???
