got a new Muscovy but Idk what sex it is. Can anyone tell from the picture? Thanks

Does anyone know what's up with this color or what it's called? I've never seen that before. This is a young drake out of my flock. He's nine weeks old.

.

I've been wondering about those reddish brown feathers on my birds too... I think it might be a dusky which causes brown plummage. Do you have pictures of him when first born? If he had four yellow spots on it's back and an eye stripe, then he's Wild Type which means he is not an atipico dusky. Dusky are born looking chocolate, masking their real color, if it isn't chocolate itself.

No, sorry. He had a lot of siblings. I just know there were more shades of brown ducklings than I expected. There were some totally brown, some chocolately brown spotted ones, and some almost fawnish brown spotted ones and black ones.

Both of my duck hens have hatched! Duck #1 hatched 14/15 eggs and duck #2 hatched 13/15! All 27 ducklings are healthy and thriving. Last year 2/3's of my ducklings died within a day or two of hatching for no apparent reason. I finally decided that it must be an inbreeding problem because my drake was closely related to my hens. Last fall I got a new, completely unrelated drake and had no issues this year. The bad news is that I got no blue ripples.

I have sadly lost a couple of my ripple hens the past few years, so I am down to my last three. I'm thinking about buying some hatching eggs next year. It seems though that blue ripples are extremely rare. Who here has them? I know @learycow has/had them. Also, what is the going price for b/w scovy ducklings? I think I'm going to sell some of these as I can't really keep all 27.

Congratulations on the successful hatches

If anyone has them I'm sure it would be @learycow . I'm asking $8 for my ducklings but that's because I don't really care if I sell them. At least not right now. After chating with @2crazyflockers I've decided I want to keep them to see how they feather out. I had 20 from 24 eggs from my white hen Blanche hatch and I have two blue pieds sitting. One on 13 and the other on 20. It's going to be wild around here for awhile

Good luck selling yours.
