The babies are growing WAY too fast. These pics are from Tuesday and I swear they doubled in size last night! They are so adorable though and I love watching them transition into adults. One of my pied is already getting some white feathers on his tail and the blues are changing color. Its just exciting!

Does anyone know what's up with this color or what it's called? I've never seen that before. This is a young drake out of my flock. He's nine weeks old.

Opinions on pinioning?

I don't care for it.

I thought pinioning was to be done as soon as hatch?

I wish my pied Drake was pinioned! They can fly like eagles, no joke.

My drakes are too big. Only one tries to fly and he's too young to know better.

D'oh, that's not what I want to hear. I was hoping I could keep my drake unclipped this year. I got him as an adult, and I love, LOVE him to the moon and back. He's also kind of fat and slow-moving so I was hoping that when his wings grow back that he'd be too heavy to fly...I'm not sure I'm willing to risk him getting lost though. Oh well, I guess we'll have to re-solidify our friendship again after. Even if it takes a few days, I guess it's better than risking it.

I have 5 female muscovies. 2 days ago I threw out 10 eggs. Today there was 14 eggs. I don't know what could be making them produce this many eggs in such a short amount of time. They usually only lay 1-2 a day. Anybody know what's going on? I've been raising muscovies for about 20 years. I've never seen this before.

His whole body was the color of the foreground duckling's head, I believe. A whole bunch of mine were.

I noticed that when they don't have the "wild pattern" spots that as they mature their feathers are brown laced, not white. I'll see if I can find one that's white laced.

Because they are soooo cute I want to keep all of mine but I can't, there are too many. I couldn't remember if yours were hatched or if you just got them. IF you hatched them, can you keep them all?
