Any tips on trapping raccoon? :flI've smeared the traps with guts:drool, left a trail, camouflaged, and left its favorite, duck... It came back one night and tried to dig around one trap and set it off. I'm pretty sure it hasn't come around the last 2 nights. I can hear it coo'ing in the woods before bed but cant get the damn thing. :mad:I'm ready to go buy a coon dog and just hunt it down!!!!:he:barnie
Try marshmellows, they can't resist them. Also sardines in oil. Just open the can a tiny bit so that they have to really work to get the sardines out. While they are bouncing around trying to get at the sardines, they will set off the trap. Good luck!

I had one attack my ducks, killed one, maimed another one horribly, she survived the broken wing and bites and is fine today. I caught the coon the next night.

It took a few days to get a trap setup, had a dog out when we locked up at night. Been keeping the dog up while the traps out, since she will bark at a mouse fart. I'll try something fishy tonight. Maybe I'll rub the duck legs in fish funk??? It'll smell like a smorgasbord..... Oh, Not the live duck:lau (were using butchered duck scraps) lol Hopefully we get the little turd tonight.

I drove 2 hours to re-trade back my amazing male. I traded my friend the wrong male because it was 2 am dark outside and I was tired and just grabbed a cage that said male on it. Foolish for me for not looking at which male it was.
@learycow What would you say this male is? His colors looks like a lavender to me. All my blues have a dark tone to them. I bought this guy from a seller saying he is a Lavender.

Also picked up 7 barred ducklings along the way! Not all of them are in the picture. They ran inside the coop when camera came out.

Racoons cannot resist sweets, especially Little Debby's Honey Buns. Racoons seem to know that it's a trap and will dig around the outside of the trap first trying to get the bun out, and will tip the trap over if not secured to the ground. We use long garden staples to anchor the trap.

Sooo... I caught a possum  I don't want to kill it, since they are said to eat mice and snakes. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with my flocks death. The first roo it killed, it pulled through the fence and didn't leave a bone behind, that's why I assumed raccoon. Should I take the possum somewhere or just let it go?

Added Muscovies to our flock... this will certainly be a new experience for us! I helped my grandma with her chickens growing up but we never had ducks. I'm pretty excited. Nyla mentioned French White and a black. I'm not sure on the black, DH seemed to think she had a similar pattern to our partridge cochin. Hopefully I can get some better pictures of them today as it warms up!
