Muscovy keepers share your pics!

My moms duck rule is 4 ducks. She is very firm on that one. We only have the one 20x10 space, with free range time in the afternoons, so it would be hard to separate them... Plus Apollo is already starting to show dominance over the two boys, grabbing their neck feathers and chasing them around. He leaves the girl alone though..for now. I may sell Quackers and get a girl to keep Bean company. But I might be able to convince my mom to let me set up another area for Cheese so he can chill (Ill switch out the girls every few days so he wont get lonely. Just wont get picked on)

Oh how I wish I had gotten into something where boys are good.... like rabbits. Of course then, I would have gotten all girls.

My drakes for the most part get along, my oldest will harass my 1yr old drake till they get into it but so far it hasn't amounted to much except missing neck feathers. No my gander and drakes use to get int some humdingers. But they have worked out their differences my drake stays out of the ganders way. lol now my youngest at 17 weeks is not getting involved this year he pretty much hangs with my 13 week old duck and seems pretty happy with that, have no idea what next year holds but won't even think about it now. I hate it when they can't get along, but yes maybe selling Quackers and getting another girl may help a tad. Theres always going to be dominant drake it's just getting the lesser to mind his manners and stay out of his way.

Me and my mom talked it over last night after witnessing a heck of a fight between Apollo and Cheese. Cheese now has a large wound on his leg. I have come to the terrible decision that I will have to sell Apollo. I will keep the other three for now and try to find a Muscovy duck to keep them company. Maybe Ill get lucky and find one at Chickenstock... Not many people want to part with their females though... which I understand. This makes two boys I have to part with for violence. My rooster is going to freezer camp for attacking me one time too many.

I'm sorry you have to do this but completely understand. I have also made a tough decision that when we process our extra roos our youngest drake will go with them, He was going after my oldest ducks this evening and they aren't not up to his affections. So to try to keep them safe and having to deal with 1 more drake after them he will have to go. I have had him for sale on a poultry group on face book a friend posted for me but not many want a drake. But Apollo has something going for him from What I can see he could probably be shown in 4H or some of the other smaller shows because his color is awesome. More what they are looking for in show I think so maybe call your local 4 H extension and see if they know anyone who maybe interested. Hope it works out.

Young drake I am very tempted to keep.... and these pic's don't do him justice. I'd like to get a really good picture of his long gorgeous tail but haven't been able to get one I'm happy w/yet.

Thanks! I completely forgot about FH, I left them a message and sent a pic so hopefully someone will be interested in him. Hes certainly young enough that he could be re-trained to accept handling. He lets me pet him but as soon as I make a grabby motion, he makes a run for it.

My Chocolate Muscovies, ~16 weeks old. I had no idea when my daughter picked out Houdini as a duckling that we would fall in love with these ducks! I could watch them for hours, especially when they play in the pool!! I think I will be on the hunt for a couple of blue Muscovies to add to the flock....

Here's Harry...
