Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Is there something wrong with my 'scovies? I mean.. seriously, i'm annoyed right now... I have a few blues in this last hatch... so fine i have someone inquire but they are like what are they mixed with? EXCUSE me? they are 100% pure Muscovy! and i think they look like nice birds.. by no means am I claiming show quality nor have I EVER but seriously? . Yes, i know what it's like dealing with people just this annoyed me... i really think i should just respond with clearly i don't have anything your looking for and be done.

Your birds are just fine... beautiful in fact. Maybe they've been 'burned' before and are trying to be more careful. Find out what they actually mean w/'mixed' first off and assure them they are pure Scovy. I had a customer coming to find companions for their "scovy" hen, asking a lot of questions about egg laying ect. ... come to find out they were sold a 'mule' which is why thier hen hasn't developed caruncles nor laid eggs and she's 1yr old. Looking at a picture of her.... she's a mule all right. Even after telling a different customer last year that if she let her Scovy drake breed w/her Pekins & other mallard derived breeds she'd get 'mules' who would be sterile/infertile.......

.... I had them coming back this year after loosing some hens wondering why the mixed ducklings hatched the previous yr. weren't producing offspring.

So many of my customers just see a picture I posted and want Muscovy.... not knowing anything about the breed.... I always ask them if they do... and EDUCATE them about them. Some have changed their minds .... which is fine and better for the Scovy ... others are that more interested and excited about having them.

That is fascinating... I don't know why, but this is SO interesting to me!! How does it stay on? I know how the chicken saddles work, is this similar? Did she take to it right away? Is she outside at all?
I make them with a strap over her tail,a velcro strip up her back,a "V" colar arond her neck, & then a strap down her belly back to the diaper. She took to it pretty quick, actually. I started her off wearing it for a few hours but now she can wear it all day if we're out. At first, she would walk with her butt in the air & walk backwards until she got used to it.

If she was annoyed, I would adjust the pattern until she was fine. I try to make it so it's as much out of her way as possible.
She will go outside if I'm there but she's a funny ducky & not very interested in being outside. We go for walks with the stroller when I take the dogs out or to the park but she's not really into running around in the grass much. I try to make her go play but she just comes over & I have to listen to her complaint noises until I put her on a chair or my lap

Your muscovy are very beautiful!
Some people,I'm learning, are just not very informed about Muscovy. Maybe even animals in general.
I have had many people ask "What kind of bird is that?" when I take Daisy out & I say duck (thinking it's more simple than 'Muscovy') "That doesn't look like a duck! Are you sure it's not some goose or a duck/goose mix?"
Sometimes people may not know but they are quick to correct you about what you have

Sounds like a spoiled kid.

Perhaps, they claim they already have some blues and are looking for more.. so i dunno.. i just don't like someone implying i am being dishonest, if they were mixes i would say so! heck i don't even own any other ducks than Muscovy so unless someone has been playing around

they are pure.

Thanks, i think they look like nice birds... and i have no issue helping people with questions.. i will try to word myself with restraint and give them the benefit of the doubt, possibly they just sucked at words that day?(better had.... grrr lol)

Thank you! well, they say they already have some? so they should know .. honestly, who knows? i think many times people are massively unrealistic and want show birds for farm prices... yeah, given the high costs of feed and the HOURS of work i have put into these i price them reasonably but i sure as heck refuse to give them away, i'd rather keep them before i'll do that.

I've been lurking and scanning through this thread for a couple of days ;-) I currently have 11 Muscovies that I bought in July. These are my first scovies so I am trying to learn the colors. Out of 11 I think I probably have 5 ducks and 6 drakes. Some of the drakes have developed 'angel wing' (which if you know anything about the cause I would like to know I'm not finding much info on that). I will probably keep 3 or four of the drakes and all the ducks.

In the meantime I would like to know what to call these colors
This is duck #1

Duck #2

They are close to the same shade of grey, just the sun makes them look more different than they are

Duck #3

Duck #4

Duck #5
she was in the shade, I will try and get a better pic of her another day. I love the look of her breast feathers

Drake #1 he has the same markings on his breast as the last duck

Drake #2 is the biggest one; he's really huge; I'm going to have to buy a hanging scale so I can put him in a bucket to weigh him.

Drake #3 matches ducks #3 & 4

Anyway I would like to get some idea of what to call these different colors and also the genetic possibilities when they are bred together. I really love the looks of the chocolates I've seen on here and would like to get some of them too! I searched for several months for someone selling scovies as I wanted them for meat. Now that I have them I am really enjoying them. The drakes are still growing out feathers as you can see. Some of the ducks were pulling the drakes feathers out, even making them bleed; I am feeding turkey/gamebird grower along with sprouted grains, greens and such; wonder why the feather pulling? I have those ducks seperated now though.
