Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Greetings from MASSACHUSETTS!
Got four muscovies as lawn ornaments a couple of years ago- the lack of quack made them desirable with the neighbors....
Have a large black and white male- and his ladies were black/white (2) and a butterscotch female who was his least favorite .
Well, I lost one of the ducks to a coyote last thanksgiving day, and in an attempt to move their pen closer to the house to limit shoveling, I caused the other b/w duck to ignore the duckhouse ( her attitude was that's not our house... our house is over here.... hey what happened to our house... ) she flew under a streetlight ( they do this so they can see if something is coming for them) and was struck during the night, so the least favorite female is now Big Boy's main squeeze.
Before spring I hope to get a couple of additional females to take some of the mating pressure away from Butterscotch.
They were not allowed to hatch any babies this past year, but last season Butterscotch hid out and blessed us with a clutch of six, which were rehomed at the FFA poultry auction after the Fair in the fall.
He shows his mohawk without fail when I approach, either to feed or to pen them up at night. None of the females ever bit but Big Boy has nailed my legs and shoes whenever he can get away with it.
Maybe time to raise one of his sweeter sons, and retire him to freezer camp... my brother
has a better relationship with the muscovies; he brings them treats while I give them only good healthy layer pellets.
This is a great thread- sorry for no pictures, but my cameras only use film, and without a computer of my own, a digital camera seemed a waste somehow.
Maybe I'll join the 21st century soon and get both after Christmas.

Hello!!! you should get at least a cheap one, we love pictures!!

if not, you may be able to scan some at whatever place you are using the PC.

I don't have drakes, but my young rooster decided that my 2 ducks are his chickens and he has been.... well, jmmmm,,, you know.
i hope that's less than what a drake would do, i have been tempted to luck the rooster in "jail" but my duck Henrietta seems to actually enjoy this nonsense.

Your rooster cannot harm your ducks.

I have had Scovies for over 8 years and still don't do colors well. Looks like you have a chocolate, blk barred, chocolate barred and blk and white, very beautiful too. See I told you I am not good with colors. Boy you did awesome in getting ducks/ drake ratio. Did you get geese too?

Thank you! I was shocked that they don't quack, but its been a lot of fun raising them. Huey has once, when a guinea cock grabbed her wing, and she promptly bit him! Yes, we sure did get the geese, 2 African, 4 embden. My dominant gander, an Embden is Big G, and Dad is his "pet" or so big G thinks so. If Dad sits on the porch steps, G gets on his lap and no living creature DARES approach them. G will snuggle down and nuzzle his shirt, adorable. We have another gander and 4 goose. My favorite is the African goose WeeWee, she is a lover girl. Same with her, she loves to sit in your lap. She gets very demanding, and will tug your shirt until you pick her up. Here's a baby picture or 4 hehe

Big G in july

WeeWee my baby girl in july, Thats Red, my roo next to her.

If the weather gives us one more warm day, i will update pictures soon!

I use to be a whimp but when the ratio of girls to guys is 50/50, then that means somebody has to go! And those somebody's are the males. I hate to do it but no other choice.
Thats why I try to keep hatching to minimal but them girls just don't take the hint. Do you sell any for pets? much of a market there for Muscovy? not much here.

The only scovies that I sell are the drakes. I do not process any type of "hen" whether it be duck, chicken, turkey, guinea, etc. I just can't bring myself to processing a hen of any kind. That seems just wrong. People always contact me and want duck meat, so I sell them the drakes and they take them home and process themselves. What I don't sell, I put in the freezer.

Yes, people LOVE muscovies in my area to put on their pond, process and especially for the duck eggs. Different ethnic groups will contact me for the drakes for special meals. One of them told me what they do with them and after that, I stopped asking. :/

My babies! do not know how to add words between pictures so this will have to do. The bottom picture is of the winterized duckie enclosure. The sweetie with the white tummy is Salt. Darkwing & Flipper are on the perch and the pond ( fed by an artisian well) is where they are taking their baths.POHI is the top picture If you stand too close you get really , really WET
