Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Okay so my scovie decided shes ready to be a mom, and since I have no drake, I put about 12 of the girls eggs under her (including some serama, hope she dose not squish them) so, heres my question, a duck rearing chicks, ever had any luck?

It's been done but be sure there is no water pots or pools around or the chicks will follow the mom into the water and drown. Good luck

When I watched my newly hatched muscovy ducklings, they appeared quite clueless to me when it came to food. Even when they were already three days old they tried to eat straw. Usually my ducklings learned in one day that they were supposed to eat the pellets, even without a mother to guide them.

And it's more fun to watch how a mother takes care of her own offspring

It might be that muscovies, unlike other breeds which have lost their motherly instincts have not been selected for hardy eggs that can cope with incubator conditions.

Not at all been my experience. Now hatchery Muscovy are struggling with mothering that is where the instinct has been reduced, i have one so i know first hand. That said my non hatchery have instincts that are rather hard to fight against, how i ended up with a winter hatch, mothering determination.

well heres the funny thing, the mom was raised by chickens, and well thinks shes a chicken, she dose not swim or play in the water unless forced i.e. bath tub. so i think alls clear there, shes the only duck i have, givin to my daughter as a gift from a guy at a swap meet i went to. :)

Baby picture time lol

Okay i need just a little help. I have three muscovies and my two girls are running off. i keep them in a pin in my yard and they have been happy there until today. Now they keep getting out and running off. Why? have i upset them? they keep food and water and they have NEVER ran off before. this is the fifth time today and i'm worry. i just put my new Cayuga month old babies in there is that it?

Might be ,how old are the 2 that are running off? when introducing new members to a flock or resident ducks you have to do it slowly. you can't just put them all together an expect harmony. it doesn't always work that way.

I would say that your ducks like to explore their environment

As soon as they find a hole in the fence or figure out that they can climb oder fly over it, they do it. Mine also like to do it but come back into the pen every time or get nervous if they don't find their way back in.
