Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Okay, I think I have figured out why I'm only getting 1 Muscovy egg/day now that Ducky (my first Duck) is brooding...

That's my Blue Fawn on top of my Chocolate... Ducks don't do that to one another, right? So my Blue Fawn's a drake? =/

PS Sorry about the snow- we have a little blizzard action going on. Gotta love MT Spring!

Yeah, they do. Post of a pic of the bird on land, is it bigger than your other ducks? drakes stand out like a sore thumb. My 5wk+ you can tell 3 drakelets, 1 ducklet she looks like a toy or failing to thrive beside them. how old are they?

What color is(are) the drake(s)?

There are different views so you can pick from pictures too.

I've been told we don't have true piedbald, septia or bronze in N.A.
The white is from an incomplete white gene pair for pied - so a Big W and small w pairing for the mom at least.
All the white, ripples and barring, white heads and piebalds - I consider "extras". Can leave them set while figgureing out how the rest impacts coloration.

Basicly the Chocolate and Blue genes (both have a place) are responsible for most color variations.
Males have two genes for chocolate while females only have one. So a male can carry chocolate and not show it or have a bit of "muddiness".
You won't get a male showing chocolate unless both genes for chocolate are present.
So if you just play with the chocolate and blue you'll get most of the colors.
The Lilac seem to adjust intensity/paleness for the lilacs, silvers, buffs, creams.
He's a black & white pied.

The BF is between the Choc and my White drake size-wise and with leg thickness. My White boy has been getting beat up by someone, I just haven't witnessed it yet, but he has started looking totally haggard in the last week.

White drake is 4 years old.

These two are the same age. Last year's hatchlings. Bought them both as females.

It doesn't have big feet but with that first pic it looks more drake like... although a tougher way to get an answer but since it's older, can you get "her" to quack? drakes cannot do that period. Your white drake looks like mine lol but i do have 2 drakes and they do fight, so haggard is a good word for it.

I blew up the second pic and while ducks can vary, it looks much larger than the one of equivalent age, same clutch too? I own four chocolates, the white headed one is the oldest 10mths and the other 3 are two months younger, the white headed one is not related to the other 3.

I'm not sure if they're from the same clutch, I just asked for "A blue and a chocolate" and that's what they brought me. I love the Blue Fawn color, I'd just like to know for sure if it's a duck or drake! Lol I realize if this is my biggest problem today I have a super easy life. It's just perplexing.

Meanwhile, my other duck is on 15 eggs :) So hoping for ducklings in the first week of May! Over half way there :)

oh, ok.. well, it's hard to tell with pictures perspective can be skewed, it does appear bigger than the other duck and my drakes are not the same size, the one is younger. I'd try seeing if you can get a vocal response or keeping a close eye to see if you catch the evidence it's a male.

GL< with that clutch!
