Muscovy keepers share your pics!

ROFLMAO!!! Actually he is the one that wanted the chickens so we started out with 5 12 week old hens. They weren't laying fast enough for him so he ran out & bought 4 laying hens. Over winter 4 hens died, 1 to a coon, 2 to a dog, & 1 was left out it froze to death...When spring came I brought home 2 silver laced wyandotts. Then he ran out & bought 7 more chicks and the 2 skovies we have.... But this whole time he is yelling at me saying NO MORE we got too many NO MORE!! Well stop bringing them home..

Oh we have 5 eggs now I bought a dog crate from ebay. Hopefully it gets here soon before she starts sitting... Is she gonna be ok alone without the male? They are a mated/breeding pair, the kinda stick together like glue. I had her out of the run by herself yesterday & he about had a heart attack.

It was funny to watch
As for the drake, she may not want him too close once she gets serious, you'll just have to watch. My broody is in a X large dog crate converted to broody box now and when she comes out to eat, bathe and poop she doesn't want anyone close to her, my 2 drakes act like they can't stand the fact that they haven't seen her all day so of course they have to try and chase her down for you know what, and she is screaming and running for her life. I try to watch for her coming out now so she can do it all in peace without the boys running after her.Worse than a soap opera around here at times..

Actually, could grow a lot of your chicken feed in it.

We feed them fodder omg the chickens are so fat they can barely move.....

Thats why we decided on the crate that way I can move it out of the run and she can be in her own space... I have the pool and feed ready in a seperate location. Now the crate has to get here lol...

Must be why my boys are lurking in the bushes - sulking.

The legbar eggs are here.
wee.gif

Tommorow they go under a brooding duck on the porch that has hunkered down for about 10 days now on the half dozen eggs I left her.
Wish me luck!

Part of why I want scovies - to do broody duty.
No messing with bators.

Males are all alike, never mind the species!
Trying to imagine young drakelet waddling at light speed with his tail tucked.

Raining - AGAIN! or is that still?
Poor broody duck had 2 cats crammed in on top of her and two squished at the entrance of the box.
She's preening. Cat's grooming. Regular girls' makeover party out here! Poor things - the damp has them all frizzy.
Can'tdo a thing with thier fur, errr feathers, errr...

Poor girls they look uncomfortable, lol at least you don't have to worry about the eggs getting cold. and this young drakelet is a yr old this month and ever so often about once a week he thinks he can take over as head drake. Papa put him in his place though. and your right never mind the species.

Yeah I read that about her good luck with that

. So haw many do they usually lay before they decide to start sitting?

depends on the ducks, dusty sat on only 5 in feb/mar and this newest duck had 8.. i have had bigger but definitely varies. I've had a dumb twist on this whole found nest, the mama has chucked it in, but i left them in the barn for the day just in case, go to put the ducks in tonight and low and behold one of the 8mth olds is sitting on them! wth?
barnie.gif
is she all kinds of crazy! who knows where this nonsense will lead but i did mark them so i know what's what.. the demand for ducks eggs right now is insane, i am pre-sold.

If she's 8 months she should be up to laying - yes?

Had the first one started incubating yet? Or was she just laying?

I've had girls start out sharing, laying in the same nest. Squabble who's it was and the loser go off and start another nest of her own. And then girls eyeballing a brooding hen's nest and try to take it over. Winner take all! Funny silly duckies.
