Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Yes 18 a piece! I plan on trying to sale some and saving some for the freezer. They may have more than that i really need to sneak out one night and candle them. What is the going rate for a muscovy duckling sexed?

Males are all alike, never mind the species!
Trying to imagine young drakelet waddling at light speed with his tail tucked.

Raining - AGAIN! or is that still?
Poor broody duck had 2 cats crammed in on top of her and two squished at the entrance of the box.
She's preening. Cat's grooming. Regular girls' makeover party out here! Poor things - the damp has them all frizzy.
Can'tdo a thing with thier fur, errr feathers, errr...

That's soooo stinking cute!!!! I thought she would attack the cats?

makes me think of when they use to see how many could get into a phone booth[ how many remember them] showing my age now, or how many could pile into a Volks wagon beetle.

It gets worse. Last night I think she had 7 piled up. Mostly she just ignores them. She'll preen herself . Ocassionally throws the stink-eye at them. Have yet to see her really have a hissy fit. Kinda concerns me. If she dosen't get more protective when the duckls hatch those cats will have smorgasbourg. Got to put the thinking cap on - maybe put her nest in a small cage without moving it when it gets close to hatch at least. On the plus side, shes in one of 3 nest boxes right on top of a good sized brooder cage sitting on the front porch.

It pretty much depends on what's typical for your area, what you have and how many other people are selling right then.
If you're in an area knee deep in scovies or offering a common color - they'll fetch less or end up in your freezer. Depends on your market too. Pet people like 'em fresh hatched to imprint. Breeders and eaters like them older. Breeders want females, eaters want males. Check out what ducks are going for in farm stores and local papers - and go a bit cheaper to move them.

Dunno if it helps as different part of the country and strong ethnic market but I sell eating eggs for $6dz, hatching eggs $20dz, hatchlings for $4@ - unsexed. Juvie males $10 females $15. Adults males $15 or 2/25 ($25 if chocolate male) females $20 -25. General price for adults is $15 but I've seen people dump a quantity for $5@ to get rid of them. Sometimes you eat a LOT of duck!

Something to keep in mind - FDA regs can get you if you aren't careful about selling "LIVE" livestock. Many people would buy ducks to eat - but they want them ready to eat or at least killed. Adjust the price of your live bird and offer to clean THIER bird for free afterwards if you choose to offer that service.

I think people have posted pictures on this thread of this cross.
Go back maybe 10 pages and come forward, think there was one then.
Look for Scovy and mule. Forgive me if I'm restating something you all ready know but scovy are a different kind of duck. All other breeds of ducks are mallard based and you can interbreed and the crosses are fertile. Not Scovies.
Any other kind of duck crossed with a scovy produces Mules - sterile offspring. Mule ducks will lay eggs - but they'll never develop. Males will mate, but 99% are sterile.

LOL! Yeah, I did the scovy math. 15 ducks X clutches of 20 = 300 eggs X's 3-4 breeding seasons = OMG!

Think the drakes will get culled down to the best of the best of the best of the best - and penned! Then the girls can roam and lay to thier heart's content and I'll have eating eggs. If I want babies, best girls can have a whirlwind romance in a honeymoon suit with a chosen drake....
ok thanks. and yeah i already new that, except thats the males from that offspring can produce but its like a really slim chance?
