Aren't you the sly one.LOL! This is why you start pinching eggs marking a few to leave. Once she hunkers down and just does the dump and load run or two a day - then she's serious and you start counting 37 days to hatch. I thought it ran between 12-22? I've got some that started out laying in co-op nests and then when one seriously claimed it, went off and started her own right next door. Have a couple that may well have monster egg count nests that way - but others content to sit on a half dozen. Those eggs are great for baking goodies btw...
Using ducks for broodies, I'll play musical nests with thier eggs to just leave a few along with the foster eggs I want hatched. Have it timed so the fosters will hatch just a little bit sooner and pull them - leaving her to hatch her few ducklings and play happy proud mama with.
doesn't matter those 2 can give you 100 ducklings in one season.![]()

Take a soft lead or grease pencil and put an "X" on the eggs all ready in the nest. If she's not on the nest much during the day yet - just snag the new unmarked ones when you collect your chicken eggs. Until she's sitting steady they aren't really ' cooking" yet. If I'm eating just soon fridge soonest for freshness.
