Quote: No kidding! I have had my muscovies for little over a yr and i love them.I have even decided that i wanted to get rid of my other duck breeds and most of my large fowl chickens and just keep scovies! Lol :)

I have a muscovey duck that is eating her babies before they even hatch. They pip and she breaks them out of thd shell and eats them.I manage to save one but have lost about 10. None of the other eggs have pipped but i am keeping a closes eye on them. My question is have any of you had this problem and did the duck grow out of it. I believe this is her first cluth of eggs. Should i go ahead and do away with her or give her another chance.

Well went to check on the eggs she had another one pushed across the pen picking on it so i brought the baby in put it in the bathroom under a lamp and ran hot water to put moisture in the air hopefully it will finish hatching. I removed the remaining eggs away from her and put under my best broody duck. I will just take them as they hatch.

A couple years ago one of my Muscovy's would not take no brooding as an answer so I gave in and gave her some eggs, she was an awesome broody but when eggs started hatching she attacked the one duckling that hatched if I hadn't rescued it she would have killed it I'm sure it had wounds on it's head. the other died in the shell. Next year she was first to go broody again so this time I let her keep her 8 eggs and was ready at hatching to take ducklings as they came out. What a difference in a year, she was an awesome mama, I have no idea why she attacked her duckling on her first brood, she was 4 yrs old but it was her first ever hatch. I'm glad I gave her another chance. It's a decision you'll have to make. Hope your lil one makes it out.
