Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I'm not really sure how long she has been setting but I do know it been about a week I was looking for something in the shed and I stuck my hand by her and she nipped at it it scared me a lot.

I bet it did, I have a couple ducks that when they are brooding will latch on to my skin so tight I can literally pull them up off the nest, while attached. so I try to remember to wear gloves and a long sleeve shirt when dealing with them. Keep us updated on progress.

Just got back in from extended morning chores. One of the female muscovy ducks was walking around in the yard with 10 brand new baby ducklings. Apparently she didn't get the message that it's too cold!

So the geese (all 16 of them) decided to go over and welcome the babies, by yelling at the mama, scaring her away, and then yelling at the ducklings. I intervened before anything more sinister happened, but seriously, they have acres and acres. Why do they have to harass the babies? They came back and talked to them a little nicer, and nobody seemed like they were going to bite, but the ducks were still a little scared. I guess I'll have to see how it plays out. Maybe the geese were just trying to tell the babies who's the boss of the yard?

10 ducklings is a nice surprise! My two chocolate ducks have laid in the same nest everyday for the past week. I'm hoping that one of them will sit on the eggs.

So, here are some pics of the babies that were born 12 Dec 14. I only allow my girls to hatch three at a time. That one egg did not hatch, but these two little ones have proven to be very hardy. They have done well through some very freezing nights and rain.

They started swimming since about day 3 when the momma decided the the other egg was not going to hatch and it was time to leave the nest with her babies. They have been swimming every since! They love the water!

So, here we have the happy family...

Momma is really good at keeping watch over her babies. I was really impressede with how dedicated she was incubating her eggs through some of the coldest days and nights...on warmer days, she would leave the nest to eat, drink and poop...but when the days were cold and wet...she just would not leave those eggs. I just love Muscovy ducks!

What a beautiful place to have ducks and those ducklings are precious. I have to keep my ducklings at minimum also since I have limited housing space and Muscovy's feel the need to take over the world with ducklings lol Congrats to you.

Lovely ducks! I just let 2 eggs stay with my ducks...sometimes just one if she doesn´t lay on that first day of incubation. Great little moms. I have 9 ducks. If I only let them raise just 2 each, I´ll still end up with a mountain of ducks! But they´re very sweet. I have 2 more hatched out 2 days ago....mum´s just started taking them out of the nest to eat and drink. Pic later if I get around to it.
