Thanks for the heads up!! I had no idea and never thought to look there for a price since I have recently been asked if I would sell some hatching eggs and had no what to charge!! What do you guys see for more reasonable hatching egg prices? Or for ducklings?
And, in keeping with the actual thread, here's a picture of Cricket's Mama, Choco. Okay, not an original name, but it stuck after using it to describe which duck we were talking about....
Oh, she is really pretty! I really do want to get a chocolate pied hen one of these days. I've been saying that for a year now.
On the price of hatching eggs as well as ducklings, I think it depends on the area you live in, rep as a breeder, colors that are in demand, etc. I was selling ducklings for $3. & $4. ea. last year, juvies for $5.00. Some around here are asking for $8.00 on adults. I know Bleenie can probably get more where she is Cottage Rose asks & gets more ( She has fabulous birds so check out her web site). The guy I sold my last 4 extra hens to said he had seen ducklings going for about $4-$6. May be time to raise my prices this year.
I personally wouldn't ask for more than $20-$30. for a dozen fertile eggs plus shipping.
Thanks, Guys!! That really helps!! I finally settled on, after hours and hours searching for comps, $5 for ducklings, $10/6 hatching eggs, and $20/12 hatching eggs (& before asking you guys). This was based on $25/each adult birds we sold last year. They were all just white with a black cap & blue eyes or a variety of black and white and it was $25 for both males and females. I know that I should be able to get more than that for colors and can not WAIT to see what Choco will produce when bred to my blue barred/ripple? boy!!! I need to post his pic after I get a really good one of him so that you guys can tell me what he really is
I know he is a white head of what-ever color and other markings you say and, from the research that I have done so far, may not know for sure until he has babies on the ground!! Here's a pic when he was first home since I just couldn't wait!! He has an almost all white head now and his white has spread. The duck next to him has more white on her now as well and they are both getting very pretty. The weather is supposed to break tomorrow so hopefully I will get some good pics then....
Keeper, Choco said to say Thank You!! She really works at it.... Let me know when you have to have eggs or babies
Bleenie, Our whole area for at least a 3 hour drive in ALL directions (I quit looking further) was sold out and I could have sold all of my ducks and geese many times over here. As it was, I should have kept more of my girls, but didn't have my blue?!? boy in yet.
I sold my two drakes ( pet quality, solid white, and very handleable ) for $10 each. They were three months old, and would sit in my lap - LOVED being petted. I wish I hadnt sold them
Oh my, look at the color pattern on that boy! Beautiful! It would be nice to get a clearer/closeup shot of those feathers on your blue drake, smithzoo.
Wow, you're going to have some nice babies fm him.
smithzoo100, he is GORGEOUS! I love his pattern... we might have to swap eggs..
ETA: I Think i'm gonna sell my babies for $5(if shipped) & $7 local. I only know of a couple others in my area with colored birds and 1 of them has really "muttled" looking birds..just bizarre colors. the other lady has nice colors they just all run together.
You guys made my night & made DH think that maybe I am not so crazy(I was only going to have a trio or quad, then we kept Cricket, then I couldn't pass on the boy when I saw him, and now I'll keep more girls for Bob and Blue)!!!! The weather should be nice tomorrow so I should get to be able to get some close up pictures of his feathers. It'll be fun to see the changes in his white, also. I forgot what babies/teenagers they were when I brought them home!!
