Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Then this is just normal. Muscovies start to develop their masks when they are about half a year old, and it takes some time until they lose all feathers in that area and get their caruncles.

Muscovies can be nasty to each other and like to establish dominance. They may get along better over time, but sometimes a duck just becomes the least favoured of the flock and becomes a common target for temporary aggression.

So this morning when I went out, there was a garter snake creeping out from under duckies house. I am 99% sure it can't get IN the house. I tried to grab it and missed, so it hurried back under. Can a garter snake hurt Duckie? Do I need to worry about it right now? It was about 3 feet long. Is it big enough to harm babies? Usually I just relocate snakes farther from the house but this one has been hanging out for a few days.

And PP, I'll snap some pics of her house in a bit after I clean it out. The door you see duckie through in my pic is actually the clean-out door, theres a smaller door on the front that folds down into a ramp. when its nice I open both, but on windy or cold days I only open the front.I still need to build her a secure run.

A 3' snake could eat a small duckling but couldn't hurt an adult they can also eat eggs. I leave our snakes [non poisonous] ones alone unless they over step and go after a duckling. I have seen my adult ducks grab small snakes not a pretty sight.

Garter snakes eat frogs and lizards...they do not eat eggs or birds....there us nothing to worry about.
